Wether necasary or not. symetry is something you also use for cost eficentcy.

Production wise symetric is easier to mass produce, let plate is the same as the right plate turned arround. Now where would Caldari put aside a possibility to gain a production adavantage.

I'd personaly expect the Caldari Design to be rather simulair to a Borg Cube.

Not that I have to much problems with the current modules.

Although the Moa doens;t make sence what so ever.

correct me if im wrong, but i believe there are some backstory explaining this.
something to do whit an anomaly around the eve cluster that creates density and unusual gravitational pulls in space.
thats why eve ships are built they way they are and why we dont have newtonian flight.

Honestly, I could care less about symmetrical/assymetrical and real RL analogies as to why any ship should be designed this and that way.I find it more useful to judge the aesthetics based on hull size and role. I don't think anyone minds their BS looking like a bucket with guns when they'r really flying it like that.

Having said that, I do feel like some of the combat frigates don't give ME the feeling of flying a small fast ship. The condor is one of them and I'm still hoping they un-dust that model. Even the atron has a more "fighterish" look and it's far from symmetrical or following mainstream fighter designs.

The condor is just a block with a corridor protruding.

What the hell are you smoking? Condors look amazing! They fly amazing, they are amazing. I trained Caldari frigs just to fly one.

I did the exact opposite. I trained everything else so I didn't have to fly an interceptor that looked like that.

You dissapoint me sir, if you want fugly may I present to you the Gallente federation..

For pure beauty combined with physical prowess of course we Amarr have the best of all ships in all things, IN HIS NAME!

However Caldar ships look the business. Except the Drake, Drakes must die.

I care little for Asymmetry in a game, but The Condor line is a sweet set of ships.

Also while I'm at it, please no to making it look like a fighter plane. It's the size of a boeing 747, it's definitely NOT a plane.

That actually does look kind of cool, but it gives me more of a drone impression at first glance.

Ironically enough i've already followed your advice. I mostly fly Amarr nowdays when I wanna look good while pewing *puts glasses on*
And although I get the difference of Caldari designs in mentality, I can't see it..I just can't see it as anything more than that damn lego block with a corridor :(

On the note of looking cool, I'm really not all that fond of the Dramiel's model either. Have never understood why people like it so much.

Statswise, yes I understand why people like that ship, But I'm just speaking in terms of its physical design.

What I would like is a bit of reworking on the interceptor models (all of them) just like they did with the Stealth bombers.

I'm for this, provided these reworks occur after the Imicus overhaul. Imicus overhaul is the single most important task facing the art team.

Well the prototype remodel they did looked much better, but I think it wasn't used because it simply didn't really seem to fit in the EVE universe in terms of ship design.

if it's the one i'm thinking of then it fit in perfectly and looked far better than the current model.

I thought of it as 'flat Merlin' and thought it would have fit well enough. They could have tweaked it to lose a little symmetry to please the purists.

Symmetry is practical within atmospheric flight, because of the bearings it has on navigation, and the effect of uneven wind resistance on aircraft.

In space, symmetry serves no value but aesthetic pleasure. Personally, I am a big fan of ships that are not symmetrical, as I believe they are more realistic/practical. Take the scorpion, for example.

Symmetry is impractical. It creates the need to build and fill additional compartments, that may not otherwise be required, and may potentially block possible weapon mounts, radar systems, etc.

Love the condor as is.

A realistic spaceship built for maneuverability and warfare would be a perfect sphere with small engines pointed in every direction. Mass distribution has a significant impact on how agile a ship can be, as does the location of thrusters. A sphere is also a very strong shape for withstanding impacts.

A ship with asymmetries on it would involve a ton of very careful balancing, especially if it had thrusters on asymmetrical protrusions. Extra engineering that is totally unnecessary. Simple, symmetrical and mass-balanced designs would be far superior, and every realistic spacecraft would have engines pointing in basically every single cardinal direction, otherwise it simply could not turn, or would do so unbelievably inefficiently if it had engines off its central axis but pointing "backwards".

Imagine all the variation these insights could bring to Eve! Beautiful spherules dotting the spacescape!

Nebulae blotted out by tiny Jedi training remotes! Yay! Roll

It needs to be updated for sure, but I'm Caldari and I like my asymmetry.

Highsec is owned by players now. Systems 0.5-1.0 are New Order Territory. All miners and other residents of Highsec must obey The Code. Mining without a permit is dangerous and harmful to the EVE community. See www.MinerBumping.com

Any other SciFi game ever could offer me generic blocky slow moving symmetrical bricks and fighters that whizz about like in Top Gun. Hell even EVE has those, they're called fighters. EVE offers a vision of 400m long cruisers doing u-turns and frigates pulling literally thousands of g's. Why? Because it's metal as **** that's why.

Asymmetry is important to EVE, the ships are supposed to look like the products of civilisations that were cut off from the rest of humanity for tens of millennia. Because that's what they are, they're alien spacecraft, flying saucers and EVE is all the more fantastic for it.

Shame CCP wants to turn every race slowly Caldari aesthetically speaking but what can we do.

also the blackbird is beautiful but please fix the moa

See my post on page 1. ;) Also a link to what it looks like textured there.

That was a prototype made by the art department quite awhile back and was thrown in the dust bin. They have no intention to actually use it.
