I got killed for the first time yesterday evening in high security space, but it doesn't seem like CONCORD responded. Do I misunderstand the PVP system?

killboard link - http://eve-kill.net/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=10882082

Basically, I was doing a L3 mission in my new Raven (I know my fitting sucks, I'm only 20 days old). This guy warped in, warp jammed me, and killed me. I warped away in my pod as soon as I could, but I didn't see CONCORD appear before I was out. I docked at the nearest station I got an aggression warning (15 min or something), and once that was finished I warped out to my wreck and looted the remains.

Looking at the killboard info, it doesn't look like this guy was killed by CONCORD, and I couldn't find his wreck anywhere either. Do I misunderstand the PVP system? - http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/System_security

If it matters, I didn't fire on his ship or even get him target locked before I died.

did you loot anything that he might have flipped to a can of his own first?

thats the only thing I can think of. killboard site is down currently, so I can't really look at that.

the only other possible explanation is that you somehow wandered into lowsec....

If I'm not mistaken, you wouldn't have gotten an aggression warning until you had fired on him in some manner. (Or can flipped, etc.)

If you're certain your ship didn't auto-target him and fire a round off, the only other thing I can think of is smartbombs. The killboard is down or I'd have checked already.

You joined faction warfare.

Its important to read "quests" in this game before clicking accept.

Also you have no business flying a battleship with a character 20 days old, oh and search battleclinic for some top rated mission fits and work towards those (skills wise), don't worry too much about t2 cruises at first but get your supports and tank to t2 before you go near a battleship ok

The killboard link is not working from this forum for some reason, copy and paste it to your address bar.

I'm certain I didn't fire on him. I was looting/salvaging all the wrecks from the NPCs, but I don't think I saw anything flagged as his. How would I know it's his and not mine?

Ford, can you explain more for a newb player? If the quest i'm doing is faction related, how does PVP work?

The corp you are in is engaged in constant pvp with the corresponding enemy factions. You need to leave your current npc corp to get out of faction warfare.

Effects of Joining Factional Warfare

  • Players in FW corporations can shoot any other player belonging to an enemy FW entity, no matter if it is a Militia or player-made corporation.

Example: A player belonging to an enlisted FW player corporation in the Gallente Federation can shoot any other player enlisted with Amarr or Caldari. However that player cannot shoot at a player enlisted in the Minmatar Republic.

Sir,

I like the sound of that new verb... "PVP'd".

There I was, doing havens in my Archon, when DRF pvp'd 10 moms and 5 titans on me.

Quote:
Draketrain pvp'd my butt repeatedly at Amamake.

Sounds right to me.

Thanks, this helps a lot! I don't think I'll leave the corp just to avoid PVP (it adds some fun danger to the game), but now I understand it and won't be as surprised next time.

Keep an eye on local for nastyface reds and act accordingly. Also learn how to d-scan. Read a pvp guide like wensleys rifter guide (google it) because it isn't just handy for people looking to pew pew, it can save your ass too Cool

D'oh. I suck.

To be honest, I've never participated in FW, and the thought never occurred to me.

WOW!? If this is what you like you will enjoy this game for years to come.

Also like others have stated you should in no way shape or form be in a Battle Ship, you might be better off working towards cruiser skills and then battle cruiser skills before you move into a BS. You will find that Battle Cruisers are suitable for alot of tasks that Battle ships can do, since you are Caldari trained you have one of the best PVP Battle cruisers available. It has an amazing tank and can deal any form of damage. Look into a Drake.
