Bounty system problem

Hi everyone
I am a returning player after a year+ long break. (I only have a 3 million SP, so I count myself a noob still.)
I was recently asking a few questions in the help channel in game and I started getting a person adding 100k bountys on me and another person added a 1 million bounty.
So my question is why? I do not get what they achieve by this apart from the knowledge I am annoyed because I now have "Wanted" across my portrait. To me it's non sensical. What am I missing please?

Why? Cause they can.

What are you missing? Nothing really.

Bounty system has changed in the way that you can now put bounties on people no matter their sec. status.
And the payout system has changed to prevent podding yourself with an alt for profit. The payout is now depending on the loss value of the kill.

So the only thing you really can do is HTFU (sorry if it sounds blunt) and shrug it off and forget about the whole thing and just have fun playing.

EDIT:

Also, having a bounty doesn't change whole CONCORD mechanics. So just cause you have a bounty on you doesn't make you a free for all target in high-sec. Normal CONCORD rules still apply.

I do not really see the need to write HTFU to be honest. You could have typed out your sentiments to "shrug it off" without the silly text speak and shown a little respect. (sorry if that sounds blunt)
To my eyes the reason these two people put a bounty on me was utterly pointless. "Cause they can" does not even make sense.
The mind boggles.

"Cause they can" is the whole point of Eve.

Welcome to EVE.

EVE is harsh.
EVE will chew you up, spit you out and eat you again.

They place bounties on you cause they could. It's the whole thing about EVE / Sandbox, you can do what ever you want, when ever to who ever you want.

CCP added the ability to add bounties in the last expansion, and some people are throwing their money away doing it for no reason at all. You will, unfortunately, have to live with it, as the only way to remove the bounty is to suffer 5x the cost in ship losses (to other players).

The bounty itself will not make you legal to attack in high-sec, and a few million isn't really a reason to suicide a multi-million ship to kill you. Don't afk-mine in an expensive barge with no defenses, and be careful how much stuff you put in your industrial to transport to the sales hub, and you should be ok.

The wanted sign is annoying, though.

EDIT: CCP is probably quite happy with all the pointless bounties. They are an ISK sink. In theory, person puts a bounty, and someone else kills and collects the bounty, but in practice a lot of these bounties will not be collected, because the players just don't PVP or avoid it pretty well. So the money sits on their head, and out of the economy, for months, years.

What a sad state someone's intelligence is in if that is what makes them feel good.

the bounty does almost nothing. I've tossed out a bounty or two in acute frustration. Rarely does anything come of it.

The OP asks why?

As I was probably the person that placed the 1 mill bounty I should be the best placed to answer that question.

< redacted > was placing 100k bounties on people that were talking in the channel and placed a 100k bounty on me. I tried to troll him a bit to see if he would put a bit more on but he just added another 100k.

The OP, I think it was him, was complaining about it and it was explained to him that < redacted > was just trying to wind people up and so on. As the OP kept going on about it I thought he was trolling so I dropped the 1mill on him. So there you have it.

What's the quote about casting stones and glass houses?

As far as "why" people do it, I'll tell you why I do it. It's simple, really. In my overview, neutrals with bounties show up in black. I want to paint my overview black, so I put bounties on everyone.

If you don't understand that, then I feel sorry for you, but it makes me happy. It's my ISK. It doesn't harm you. And, sometimes, it makes people rageface. That also makes me happy.

If you don't like it, oh well. Eve has mechanics to deal with that, too. Pirate

That

Is it petty and immature? Of course.
Will your bounty be even higher after you posted this thread? Of course.

The HTFU comment was the best advice you have recieved thus far.

It's only when you stop caring what others do or say that you lose the target on your back.

Really, with this attitude...

I doubt you will play EVE again for more then 1 month.

I seriously doubt if EVE is the kind of game you are looking for.

You're going to run into "HTFU" more and more as you go.

The go look up HTFU by CCP on YouTube. When that video came out ti became a rallying cry for EVE players as the prefect phrase to people that can't seem to accept some of the harsh realities of EVE.

It doesn't matter how pointless something is, there is probably someone out there what will do it and not always because they don't have the sense not to, but because they wanna do something odd and different for the hell of it.

The bounty thing is simply a very low level of grief tactic and/or trolling. It very likely won't effect your game play for a LONG time since people don't care about 1.1 mill bounties, but it's more likely just to simply get you to make a thread like this out of annoyance.

That's probably all they wanted to achieve, was to mess with your head.

I love how people think that Eve is the most hardcore thing out there and cite childish, worse than wow players, type of behaviour as being proof. I am well aware of the "harsh realities of eve" but placing random bounties to get a rise is purile at best.

That's what we're talking about. The thing is that we have just as many trolls as the rest of the internet but they have to tools to do pretty much whatever they want. Bounties are pretty low on the "screw with you" factor so if you're this worked up about it then we have reason to be a little concerned for your mental and emotional well being when someone goes to actually do something significant to you.

This thread itself might even be reason for you to get more harassment because someone that comes along and reads it later would be armed with the knowledge that they can get a rise out of you with something as simple as bounties.

They might even just start spamming you with large numbers of small bounties and/or tell everyone they know "hey, put a bounty on this guy because he hates it lol"

In the end it doesn't matter how stupid or childish something is when it happens to you, we can't change that nor do we care to. We've been on both sides of the window and it's the way things go around here.

Apparently these puerile tactics are effective against you.

That is what you need to address .. not the trolls. Trolls are forever and exist in every game. The difference between EVE and other mmo's is that you take real revenge on your enemies here. Revenge is a dish best served cold.

The next time someone pisses you off simply laught about it .. befriend them, earn their trust and then DESTROY them. That is EVE online.
