If you are into this kind of stuff you surely like Wumpscut, too. This was one of the earlier songs that was very influential for the genre.
I used to work as a bartender in a goth club at that time to earn some extra money while studying....good old times....

I used to listen to both bands quite a lot. Thanks for linking an old Paradise Lost track- I refuse to acknowledge anything they made after "Icon" (like Metallica ceased to exist after the Black Album in my world)
Back in those days, I liked Amorphis and Entombed best as far as Doom/Death was concerned.

I just think that the whole goth/death/industrial whatsoever genre is something that you inevitably grow out of when you get older.
As an ex-goth in my mid-thirties now, each time I see some new band where some 19year old teeny screams about being a bad mofo or the lord of darkness, my reaction is this.

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

Yeah, all those genres have their groups who are trying to outdo eachother, and be darker or more hardcore than the others, to prove that they are truer to the genre or whatever, but it lacks any real substance. I think you see through the act when you're older. You can even see it happen in different bands as they age. Like Einstürzende Neubauten went from this to this. When i was a teenager I used to think industrial noise shows were amazing because they were finding the beauty in chaos, or something, but now i find it insufferable. Can only tolerate it if there are Genesis P. Orridge lyrics on top of it.

Can't say i was ever a huge death metal fan, and there's even less of it i can tolerate with each year, but i'll definitely be listening to particular industrial and goth bands that aged well for the rest of my days. I'd hate to hear you turned your back on the genres entirely, because you have a rare understanding of them.

Guess its fitting with the discussion going on about goth/metal/whatever going on in the post above me. I will admit there is some bands i "grew out off" but some i still listen to on a regular basis. Some might place them in different..genras? tho which is one of the problems with music i guess.. with some its hard to agree on what kind of music something is :)

But in all fairness i know im a bit odd when it comes to music. For me music has always been more about what the song makes me "feel" and what kind of mood im in right then and there. I cant just have a random playlist and listen to that whenever i want to listen to something. I always have very specific songs i listen to depending on my mood. As an example from whats above i can jump straight to something like these.

Maybe its because when i was a kid/teen/young adult everyone would always dictate what you were "allowed" to listen too. If it was not "cool" you couldent listen to it. And ofc if you were in the metal enviorment it was a disaster if you dident hate this and this band because it was "wannabe" and you HAD to listen to this and this because thats what belonged to your "label".
Since im not the kind of person you can really put a label on i guess that transfered to my music taste and to..oppose i guess, the "cool" kids and the "real metal fans" i listend to whatever i wanted when i was alone and had the freedom to do so without beeing judged. Maybe thats also why i dont "grow out" out certain music and bands, since i have strong memories tied to them?

Well hope someone enjoys the music, might be some new ones you have never heard about before and you end up enjoying listening too Big smile
