Power of 10,000?

CCP, do you really think this is the best business model for a subscription game?

Instead of making the game play well enough, and giving the new players enough information to understand what goes on in the game, you choose to push additional accounts on your existing subscribers, in attempt to keep growth positive.

Unfortunately the model breaks when people start closing lots of excess accounts, or all their accounts. You may only lose one client, but losing 5-10 accounts for each one that leaves?

I wonder if it ever occurred to you that by filling the game with alts, you actually make it much harder to bring in new people?
I mean, you join the game, you don't know anyone, you start out in an NPC corp that has 200+ people in it......And not a voice is heard, .........

"My god Jim, it's full of ALTS!.....Lol

I've been playing this game off and on since Beta. I've left a number of times, and gotten back into it, I've had some good times, and met some good people. Unfortunately most of the good people I know have left the game, it's just not as fun as it used to be.
The "expansions" aren't really expansions anymore, it seems like lately it's mostly fixes to mechanics that have been broken for years.
And after a few weeks, it appears the "updates" are just as broken....Shocked

Change your course CCP, Altville is not the game I envisioned when I joined, nor is it likely to attract new players.

I don't think businesses go around listening to advice that says "Shame on you for earning money!"

Looking to talk on VOIP with other EVE players? Are you new and need help with EVE (welfare) or looking for advice? Looking for adversarial debate with angry people?

This will be a productive thread.

Nothing about the game pushes an alt on you. Alts can be useful and cool to have, but far from mandatory. I'd blame the proliferation of alts on the fact that the average EVE player is an adult with disposable income and even ~$40/month for three accounts isn't exactly a lot of money to spend on a hobby (or they earn enough ISK through play that it becomes easy to PLEX).

Been playing since 2007 and I only have one account. At one point I power of 2'd and subsequently transferred the character onto my main account but that's the limits of alt usage for me.

Another tally mark for "CCP needs to change X or lose subs" thread. I really should stop using a razor blade and counting on my thigh though.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

Yeah they should be ashamed. They created a game called tediousville, changed its name to EVE Online, and then decided that the best work around is more accounts....

Don't worry though they will never lose enough players to go out of business because there will always be that one rich fool who will buy a bunch of alts to keep CCP's doors open. We will really see the exent of CCP's game design skills if/when Dust comes out of beta.

Just two days ago a CCP PRrep kicked my door in and forced my on gunpoint to open a second account. Now I really cannot afford a second account but if I let it run out he said, he'd kill my dog. I am really at a loss as what to do; I don't even have a dog...

Better listen to him. They've been known to buy people dogs, just so they can be used as hostages. Worse, he might bring you a cat, and leave it alive.

Yes, promotions that offer discounts are a relatively good business idea.

Yes it did occur to them. You're sitting in an armchair, they're sitting in business leather chairs at their high-level manager / MBA desks, with degree and certification plaques on the wall.

If they don't change their course, can I have your stuff?

Alts aren't mandatory at all. But they are helpful. And this isn't something that only happens in Eve, it has happened in every MMO I've played. CCP just gives you a little discount upfront on a second (or third, etc) account. If people want 2ed accounts, it just makes good sense for CCP to get as many as they can.

I have 2 alt accounts, and one has been inactive for ~5 years. The second has been active maybe 4 months in the past year. If they were that big a deal I wouldn't let them go inactive at all.

Thought this was a thread about the last CSM vote and post Fanfest scandal. You know, about the supposedly genuine 10,000 voices that were all silenced in an instant due to...............................

Well, look at the thread title - Power Of 10,000?

Roll

Anyway, it's not.

10,000 accounts per person? I'm pretty sure CCP would be jizzing in their pants!

As apposed to them not having 5-10 accounts? Again, i'm pretty sure CCP would be happy with the profit up until they stop playing.

Completely disagree with this. Care to explain further how you came to such a crazy conclusion? The amount of alts doesn't effect how many new players start playing....... at all.

Yep way better business people than game designers... not really a bad thing though huh?

Today I've spoken to people with 140 alts, 144 alts, 45 alts, 17 alts, 13 alts, and below. All are PLEX-funded of course - without PLEX this epidemic would not exist.

Without the proliferation of alts, I doubt Eve would have survived as long as it has.

That's true, because without PLEX, most of us wouldn't put up with the lackluster game play here.

With the increase in shiptoasting, the Report timer needs to be shortened.
