Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone could put me on a path to really enjoying this game. I'm a huge fan of Sci-Fi and space (amateur astronomer) and I really want to get immersed into EVE Online. I love the concept of the game and the lore. I've even read a couple books but I just can't find my place in the game to keep me playing.

I've had my EVE Online account for about over a year off and on but could never get myself beyond grinding level 1 & 2 missions. I would train skills for about a month and unsubscribe (10mil sp atm). I'd start reading about EVE Online a month or so later and then resubscribe only to lose interest again. I've only been in a player run corporation for a short amount of time and my experience was disappointing. They would run missions I was not skilled for or have enough faction for leaving me feeling like I had no place. My assumption from that point on was that I'm just too casual and unskilled at the game to play EVE Online in a player run corporation...

This time around I would like things to be different... does anyone have any suggestions that may get me playing EVE Online full time?

Thanks for your feedback

And yet another, what should I do? Thread.

And you will get the same as others.

Go and find out. We cant say what you should do cause we dont know what you like to do. We can tell a pvp player to mine and he will hate it. We can tell a miner to pvp and he will hate it.

Just go out there. Try things out and when you find something that you find fun and interesting, then you found what you should do.

Free hit for this one: There's no such thing as a "mission you're not skilled for/have enough faction for".

Only one person has to pick up the mission, then anyone in his fleet can come in and run the mission with him.

Will you die? Maybe. Will you _necessarily_ die? No. And you can be perfectly helpful to an L4 guy in a battleship in your cruiser or even destroyer/frigate, and he can auto-share the mission rewards with you (including faction gain so you can eventually run them yourself).

That said, missions may just not be your favorite thing. FW is pretty easy to get into for some mostly-restricted pvp, or RvB for fully-restricted PvP. Industry and trading aren't hard to _do_, just hard to make large profits with. I find mining dull, but you may want to try it before dismissing it.

The only thing I'd say definitely stay away from for a couple months are incursions and w-space. Everything else can be gotten into by a 10M player just fine, even if those 10M are kind of unfocused.

My advice would simply be to be social, get to know some people without necessarily joining their corp right away. Even then you can just run some missions in a fleet together. Venturing out solo in unsafe space is also a way to meet people. You might lose a ship, but you might get some tips and your character known in pvp-centric circles. Anomalies and DED sites are a great way to meet random people when you start out in the game: those running it will be on par with your skill level, or struggling with the anomaly and welcome your help. The trick is to put yourself in a position where you will attract the elements you enjoy. Wanna be a pirate? Pickup a suspect timer in lowsec by shooting a Customs Office and roam hisec for 15 minutes. Dare to stand out a bit.

Also: get on voice comms with people. It adds so much to interacting with other players. Anyone that gets on comms with me for banter I will gladly run an L2 mission with.

As many have suggested already, your best bet to better explore the game is to meet people, make friends, and join player corporations. EVE Online is a sandbox, so much of the content is created by the players. Getting out there and playing with others will shed new light on the game for you and open doors to new adventures!

So, get out there...

Stop doing terrible PVE content and kill some people. Seriously, if you're not having fun then you probably aren't killing anyone.
