I'll wait until they actually are at least mid-shooting or preferably after they go to post-production before getting any hopes up... remember the Halo movie (the one that ended up not being made) ?

Once they get as far as hiring the Director, it's pretty much a done deal.

About the only thing that could stop it at this point is if it truly starts shaping up disastrously like Tim Burton's "Superman Lives" during pre-production, but that's really rare and has to be that certain degree of awful for Hollywood to let go of that kind of money these days. Even "Bucky Larson" actually got released, ya know ?

Despite what we think of the game, it just is not that well enough known to be of interest to the profit machine that is Hollywood. Game must be at the popularity level of a WoW or DOOM to attract enough financing.

If it does get enough financing for independent production though, one runs the risk of it being in the hands of Uwe Boll Ugh

edit: It's still hard to believe he directed one episode of Twin Peaks.

That's the problem with this kind of statement in print, in that this could be interpreted as serious, sarcastic, or stupid.

Try again with a slightly higher linguistic IQ level.

To some, the very obscurity may work in its favor - Fewer pre-concieved notions, more lattitude in storyline development.

Certainly, there are stories enough to work from - the GHSC gank of Mirial & Ubiqua Seraph, for instance. That's a ready-made storyline that needs only minor fleshing-out to become a rather compelling movie.

Of course, this all presupposes intelligence and logic in Hollywood. Blink

Actually an independent EVE movie about the Real Life behind the scenes hijinks and all that behind the meta-game, like the planning for the BoB bust-up and some of the infamous heists and crimes, would be a more compelling picture than yet another video game film. Except for the great gung-ho spirit of the DOOM movie, they have all really been bad (Lara Croft, Final Fantasy, yadda yadda).

It could even outdo "The Social Network" as a portrait of where the Internet is taking us.

That presupposes an intelligent director and a studio willing to gamble on a fairly complex storyline. It can happen. But it's a longshot - Hollywood doesn't have much faith in its audiences being willing to show up in large numbers for intricately-plotted movies with densely-packed storylines.
