You probably have heard the old advice about wanting to learn PvP - fit up 50 T1 Frigs come to low sec and lose them all. Sure you need to be prepared to lose fights, but to really gain some experience you need to actually win a few or at least get a decent fight where for a while it looked on the edge and lasted long enough for your actions to matter. Ones you could review later and think if only I'd overheated, if only I'd stayed at 5km rather than getting in his face, if only I'd loaded EMP...

The problem is though, too many f*ggots like me are running around in Loki boosted Cynabals, Cloaky Recons, T3 Cruisers and the like. Your T1 Frigate just doesn't have a chance, certainly not solo and there is no fun or experience to be had just being ganked. Right?

But wait! CCP have screwed up FW plexes again! Now I'm being 'forced' to get back into a T1 Frigate to run Novice plexes. Wah! Wah! Fix it CCP, I can't pwn noobs like I once could. Come on, it's supposed to be a sandbox, I should be allowed to fight T1 Frigates in my 2.8B Isk Legion.

Seriously guys. The chances to plexes particularly the novice plex has made T1 Frigates viable again. They only accept T1 Frigate, although that does include T1 faction frigates such as the Dramiel, Daredevil, Comet, Firetail, Slicer, Hookbill etc. To be honest if a noob comes up against a vet, he will probably still get his ars* handed to him. Probably! Note the doubt in that word. The fact is you have a chance, it is finally worth fitting up 50 Frigates and coming to low sec to lose them. Furthermore plenty of people have worked that out and are already doing it, it is becoming increasingly common to meet someone other than a vet who has all skills at Level V.

For those wanting more details.

Novice Plexes - accepts T1 Frigates only
Small Plexes - accepts Dessies and down, T1 & T2
Medium Plexes - accepts Cruisers and down, T1 & T2
Large Plexes - accepts anything.

The plexes now contain one or two NPC - and seriously CCP, you really did screw up with that change, they are far too lame. Sleeper AI - does that refer to the fact that a shuttle can do them while the player is asleep or something.

Can the vets camp the acceleration gate in shiny ships? They can, but they won't catch you. Use the Hans-sploit. Warp to 10Km from the gate, select the gate as you land on grid and spam gate activate. It is impossible to stop you entering the plex if you activate the gate before they lock you, then you are invulnerable, even if it takes another 10 seconds to actually enter.

For those of you interested in joining FW, you can also earn massive amounts of LP as an aside while you are in those plexes. The Novice plex for example pays 10000 LP at Tier 2 and 17500 LP at tier 3 for just staying inside the plex for ten minutes. 10000 LP will buy an Empire faction frigate such as the Firetail, Comet, Hookbill or Slicer.

Yeah I like how Novice plexes encourage frigate on frigate action.

Of course there is still the issue of 3 vs 1 frigates, but its still better than a frigate versus a Tengu.

Looking to talk on VOIP with other EVE players? Are you new and need help with EVE (welfare) or looking for advice? Looking for adversarial debate with angry people?

I, for one, have had great fights in all sizes of FW complexes medium and below (haven't touched larges, because I'm weird that way).

  • Novice: great T1 frigate fights, mostly 1v1, and great fun evading people who have boosts, etc, then seeing them rage.
  • Small: destroyer and T2 frigate fun, or frigate gang fights. T1 frigate fights here, too.
  • Medium: feels like a mini version of the "meta" of battlecruiser combat. Mixture of cruisers, ewar, logistics, with more brawling than found elsewhere at these sizes, and a sprinkling of HACs since they are not being stifled/replaced by BCs here.

It's great fun, and plexes give some sort of way for all manners of fighting styles (brawling, kiting, sig-tanking, etc) to participate, and it gives some blob-security to both sides due to the directional scanner being very usable.

The only real issue is neutral boosting alts being able to invisibly (and invincibly in many cases) tip the scales, but the boost users are usually easily identifiable, then starved for fights or drawn out of system (where they don't have boosts).

It's really too bad that pirate/faction frigates aren't considered T2 for that purpose.

Actually, I have not seen almost any pirate faction frigates in novice plexes. People in pirate frigates tend to be looking for fights, and being in such a ship makes you not get fights. I have seen plenty of Hookbills/Comets/Slicers, though.

I'm gonna have to look into this. I've had my hookbill for way too long without actually using it.
