Intaki vs Achura: Choosing a race

Hello all

I'm struggling to find my feet in this game and I was wondering if anyone could help with some lore aspects.

I appreciate that on a gameplay level, the race you pick has no real significance. It's just that when I play an MMO, I like to have some connection to who that character is.

I'm a deeply spiritual person and that drew me to the Intaki and Achura. I was wondering about the differences in their spiritual practice?

I've studied sanskrit scriptures like the Bhagavat Gita and Srimad Bhagavatam, both of which talk about a personal journey and reincarnation. Both of these seem like Intaki points to me. Also, unless I'm mistaken, some of the intaki language has Hindi and Sanskrit terms in it.

However, both scriptures also point to God as a figure of worship, which from what I understand, does not seem like Ida and could be more like Achura spirituality.

I have also thought of being Amarr but there seems to be more emphasis on the practice of religion in their society rather than the study of spirituality. Maybe the Khanid could fit this role?

I was also toying with the idea of an 'evil' spiritual character who for example, see's it better that people die in this form so they can come back with the knowledge of their mistakes and improve?

If anyone could help in choosing a race or pointing me in the direction of some lore that would help, I'd appreciate it

A corrupted Intaki religion might work for the "evil" spiritual individual you mention, as the Intaki have the idea of the Reborn, which is reincarnation of a sort.

The Achura are more along the lines of Shinto, with spirits who gather and can come back as evil ghosts if they were particularly wicked in life. Their religion isn't deeply explored in the canon at the moment.

The Khanid and Amarr are pretty identical in their outlook on religion, with the Khanid being considered slightly more zealous than the Amarr because they have to make up for not being Amarr.

The Minmatar have a tribal religion very heavily focused around shamanistic rituals and the like. The Vherokior in particular are portrayed as rather spiritual.

I don't know a great deal about the Amarr but I remember considering the Achura for myself way back when. Obviously I went for the Intaki.

You're right that the Intaki faith or philosphy of Ida does not include deity in the same way that the Amarr religion does, but then Ida is described as "a way of living, we do not have any beliefs in a heaven or hell, and do not take any writing or saying as "truth". Ida is a path, but Intaki are expected to walk it themselves."

This introduces the potential for some flexibility on your part. Essentially there is no right or wrong and if an Intaki character finds value in another group's faith system and adopts aspects of them for himself then Ida allows for this.

The Evelopedia's religions and rituals pageshould list all of the options you could pick and choose from (though it currently lacks any reference to Ida or the Idama). An option might be an Intaki in the Federation adopting some of the Gallente practices, that can include deity, and with their reputation for hedonism and excess the potential for something a little twisted or dark is there for the taking.

On the dark side, Ida also works well because the details of the Rebirth process is very vague. All we know is it involves a newborn baby as the "vessel" to be Reborn into.

Hopefully that's of some help.

I would not consider that list to be a complete collection of the religions in New Eden.

Thanks to both of you for the replies.

As always, I've been very impressed by how proactive the devs are in communicating. Other companies could take notes from CCP :)

Sounds at least like the Intaki has more scope and room for ideas. I didn't know the Minmatar had scope for spiritually as well.

That was the plan for this character but in hindsight, calling him an Idama might not have been such a great idea.

If anyone else can comment on the Achura or Vherokior, that would be helpful as well.

People have gotten odd names before. "What does it mean?" "It means my parents looked at a foreign dictionary without really reading much, and thought it sounded nice."

That's a very valid point. Thanks for that.

He could have been given that name in the hopes of becoming an Idama or something along those lines.

Doesn't Equilibrium of Mankind basically believe that everyone needs to die to move on to a higher purpose and cleanse the universe of material filth?

Thanks for the option. Does sound close to what I was thinking but maybe not as broad as Intaki

Is there any more information available on the Adakul?
