Escalations and ClusterF***s

In the light of The Battle of Asakai, have you guys been involved in fight that just escalated through error / idiocy?

Last night a few members of my alliance were roaming around lowsec, looking for a fight. So we arrive at a gate in Hikkoken, and there's a 'friendly' militia sitting at the gate. What happens next is a bit mental.

Two people of the militia fleet start to open fire on a member of our fleet. Granted, he has negative security status (yarr); but he was on their side in FW, and in our fleet. We ask them in local 'Stop firing on members of our fleet, we're friendlies you ******* retards'.... or words to that effect.

About 10-15 seconds later, our FC is calling out primaries and secondaries and all hell breaks loose. Everyone was attacking, more were jumping into the system and eventually we jumped out after we killed and lost, maybe 10 or so on each side, as others we're piling into the system. Crazy.

So any similar tales from you folks regarding escalations and clusterf***s???

Some things in EVE never change.

In the days when the battleships were the "end-game" ship it used to be like this:

Com: "Align to Gate X" (where hostile fleet was situated)
Tard in Fleet *Double clicks the gate instead of near it*
Tard in Fleet: "**** i warped in"

Back then losing a BS was a big deal so most Com's felt compelled to immediately send in the rest of the fleet to "save" the monkey who had failed at the monumentally hard task known as aligning. Of course 9 out of 10 times this meant you were landing where the people in the Red coloured spaceships wanted you to land, meaning you had lost the fight before it had started.

Now it's basically the same concept with slightly different mechanics and much more isk involved.

Actually, some people don't mind shooting anyone, including fellow militiamen. This very well might be intention, and not "itchy trigger finger". They probably join one side just so they could have some LP from time to time, but still not into FW thing as much as into random fighting.

I have a corpmate who tends to welp himself, and then the rest of us welp ourselves trying to save him. Usually involves us jumping through a gate into a fight with another, bigger, gang and trying to do as much damage as possible before everyone dies. The fights are interesting so I never really complain about it.

tbh, clusterfucks are pretty awesome.

A professional astro-bastard was not available so they sent me.

Small n00b-gang Nul-sec roam, we precipitated a minor fleet engagement between two adjoining alliances - One fleet followed us as we exited their space, and ran smack into a fleet coming the other way trying to stop us at their border. We got squashed between the two, but not before the opposing fleets had savaged each other. Some of our folks managed to whore a few killmails, and our guides popped a Tengu before burning.

Sadly, I soaked up two entire salvos from the Tengu in the first exchange, and I missed on the killmail. Sad OTOH, his fire was wasted on me, and that gave the guides a chance to light him up, so I served my function as (fleet) ablative armor. Blink
AND I got my pod out. P

Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

No escalations, but definitely some personal clusterfrags on my end. I don't regret them though, it was all a learning experience! Cool
