Combat scanner probes question

Can I launch my probes then dock up, offline the launcher and undock and still be able to reconnect to my probes in space (and safely recall them)?

Basically, do the probes work independently of the launcher while in space?

pretty sure whenever you change instance they you lose them, however why didn't you try this out yourself?

Doesnt want to lose his drones. Would much rather have someone else lose theirs to see if it works Roll

Actually, I thought about this on the train to work and won't be able to try it until tonight. I will report back if no one else at that point.

Also, I'm talking about probes not drones.

I'm pretty sure I read once that the probes belong to a certain launcher, so it should be possible. Never tried to offline it in between tho..

AFAIK, the only thing you need to reconnect to probes is a valid onlined probe launcher on a ship.

Heh, no worries Blink

Also, it sounds like Freyja has answered my question but it wasn't the answer I was hoping for Sad

Ive had probes out and swapped ships thinking i was getting into the one that launched the probes. I hit my reconnect to probe button and no probes, I then grab the ship i know i used to launch the probes (there was only 2 options of which) and tried to reconnect., Nothing. Probes lost forever.

So im under the understanding that when you launch probes and swap to a ship with a probe launcher that isnt the original launcher of the probes, It knows nothing about them. if a ship has an offline launcher you are unable to interact with the probes at all.

Signatures wer cooler when we couldn't remove them completely.

So it sounds like CCP have plugged that potential bag of fun and I could actually lose the probes if I try it.

Oh well, I guess I'll just have to bookmark spots and do it the boring way.

There is also a 5 minute timer between uses of the "Reconnect to Lost Probes" button.

So am I right in thinking that if you want to pirate solo and be able to scan out mission runners on the fly and maintain a decent level offense/defense then your only choice is basically T3.

Has anyone found a good T2 or T1 cruiser sized hull or smaller that can do all that effectively?

Though i dont like saying this. An alt used for scanning is your best bet. This way you can fit to counter your mark without losing tank or gank. If alting up (new terminology?) isnt available to you take a corpy along for the ride and swap roles every other kill or whathaveyou. The expanded launchers heavy cpu requirements limit your offensive and defensive abilities a great bit.

Yeah. I like the freedom of going solo because sometimes there are no corpies available and I don't have the spare funds for a second account. Ah well, I'll keep experimenting.

Sir, you are fouiling up my C&P with 'warfare & tactics' posts

Post with my main? This is my main - I just overtrain and overplay my alts.

what she said

without online probe launcher on ship the probe will not scan

You are about to engage in an arguement with a forum alt,  this is your final warning.

Just tested on TQ and actually I was (a bit) wrong Cry

Here's what I got :
- probes are linked to a specific launcher
- probes are not linked to a specific ship
- probes are linked to a character (can't reconnect from the same launcher with another char)
- launcher must be online to reconnect to probes
- launcher can be offline when recovering probes
