Goons only recruit from the something awful forums and the others you'll have to jump thru hoops like a good doggie but it helps to know someone inside who can vouch for you or have a killer kill board with lower SP toon and focus on PVP cause that's what they look for including you got to bare all full API your alt, transactions, a letter from your mother yada yada.

This is untrue. GoonWaffe- the severely bloated 8000 man flagship corp recruits explicitly from SA, member corps in the alliance "Goonswarm Federation" have their own recruiting practices.

From my experience talking to other people in EVE, corps in TEST or Goons, even if its not Dreddit or Goonwaffe scam.

your experience is misleading.

there are corporations in TEST and GSF that recruit from other communities (e.g. Eighty Joule Brewery - Elitist Jerks; Merch Industrial - Penny Arcade; Bat Country - f13.net; Ars Ex Discordia - Ars Technica; ...) and there are corporations that just do public recruitment (e.g. Eternity Inc, WIdot, Enlightened Industries, The Milkmen, ...).

As I said above - scams are usually conducted with personal alt corps (PACs) which are easily recognized.

Wow Bat Country recruits off f13.net? Did not even know that crazy site still existed. I kept litigating with the mods all the time Big smile

Sorry, you will have to train your awoxing alt more to gain entry.

Sorry, my main has 3-5m SP. Creating an ALT would be a little dumb in my opinion.

Is Goonswarm mainly EU?

Goonswarm and Dreddit are both around 50/50 EU and US.

What are the major differences between Dreddit and GoonWaffe?

I know they origin from their respective communities, but how does that reflect their every day in-game? Pirate

Being in one of the big alliances is over rated.
You're simply a number and there are so many on TS during fleet ops that you'll rarely have anything to say.
Why be a slave?

Join a med size corp or small alliance and you will, normally, have a lot more fun, and actually be able to talk, unless combat comms have been called of course.

Of course, unless your character is just another alt trying to infiltrate blahblahblah (obvious spy)

Who doesn't want tacklers?

Who doesn't want dictors?

At 5M SP you shouldn't be very far from flying your race dictor. At this point you can also fly racial interceptor and doesn't matter if you can't fit T2 guns on it nobody cares but everyone will be happy you're able to properly use a point/mwd/web.
If you're being told you're not good for anything in null then stop talking with idiots.
A noob willing to learn, not afraid to die often not only gets free ships/books but often showers of isk when he does good, and is far more useful in fleets than an idiot with top skills putting one gun per target just to hoar on km's

Goons are a lot more polished. After several spectacular CEO disasters they've now got an extremely competent one (The Mittani). They also have propaganda, API collection, spying and all sorts of other activites down to a fine art. They also come from a community which is more strictly moderated which means a) they post better and b) they're not very tolerant (especially of outsiders). They also take a much dimmer view of people who join the host forum purely to get into their Eve guild.

TEST are newer, brasher and less well organised. They're still to some extent finding their feet and figuring out how to operate despite being extremely successful. It's easier to sign up for Reddit too as it doesn't cost you real money.

On forums and in game people from Test come across to me as somewhat nicer people than Goons. In real life people from both communities are delightful, but then most Eve players are when you meet them in person.

I post on reddit as /u/callduron.

Before you join a corp.
Please do your research.

Otherwise we will see you again crying about how you were scammed/killed by your own corp/alliance.

To join Dreddit, all you need is to have been an active Redditor for at least three months. This is because Dreddit is a Reddit community. Other corps in TEST have their own recruitment procedures. Enlightened Industries, for example, is notoriously sluttish when it comes to letting people in.

Sluttish, you say. Do they bring in cool people?

Any moment now someone will bring up The Mittani's "spectacular CEO disaster".

Ex-Test member here.

Do not join Test or Goons.

I know as a noob the draw to the big boys is strong but honestly it's very cold and extremely cliquish in these alliances. You have to fall in and kiss ass to stay.

Find a smaller, tight-knit group of people that will be willing to train you up and allow you to be yourself. Make some good friends. Don't be like others and play this game to be someone's robot or meatshield. Don't play this game to login and deal with some CEOs over-inflated sense of relevance.

Now, you've been warned. You you chose to pursue membership with these people and get scammed or trolled relentlessly once in because you stepped one toe out of bounds, don't come crying.

Aside from the previously mentioned hurdle for would-be spies and awoxers, there are several reasons of convenience for a skillpoint minimum in recruitment advertisements.

Most corps are perfectly willing to recruit a new player, but determining the type of person or player they're recruiting is much harder for corporations when dealing with brand new characters. A killboard history and an API check fills in a lot of information concerning a potential recruit when security or playstyle issues are important.

Recruiting the newer player demands a more focused recruiting process for any corporation that wants a particular type of player, rather than a random warm body to inflate the member count, as it's quite often the player doesn't even know what he/she wants to do. When a corp doesn't have the time or inclination to sift through a dozen such applicants, the easy route is to implement a skillpoint cap and only go after a newer character when there is a personal recommendation.
