Hello J'as Salarkin

Because the Armageddon , see the Thypoon , is an attack ship where the Apocalipse is a combat ship
even if can work in most situations , it require really good skills to shine
Plus , like every t1 armor BSs without ditrect bonus , canot be burst tanked easily
The true advantage of a Apoc is in the range bonus ( can hit over 70 km with scorch with just a range rig ) while 2 large armor reppers stable equipping an afterburner
Comparing those ships with a cap booster and low skill will only show the EFT number of dps and not the flexibility of the hulls

As someone already stated, an 800 ac maelstorm in minmatar space is the easiest way to go those days, by myself i am moving away from my Nightmare in amar space

I am still seriously interested in hearing an answer to my question. WHY does none suggest to use the armageddon (and especially the navy issue armageddon)?

Because it requires good drone skills to work and if you're using amarr hulls, chances are you're in amarr space, meaning EM damage (lasers) is a better choice and the pirate upgrade uses lasers too. If you've got drone skills that high, you may as well get a Navy Domi.

In my honest opinion (as a fan of caldari ships, though :p)

A question to all you mission experts (I have never done a lvl4 before, but have for various reasons become interested to at least try them out a bit):

Why do you all skip on armageddon? To me this ships seems extremely versatile, it can get equally good if not better then the other two amar battle ships if you plugg in a heavy cap booster (I have of course compared to heavy booster fits of the other two ships too).

If one gets an navy armageddon (in price not to far of the abaddon anyway) the 5 sentries help put out MORE damage than the abaddon! The armageddon has an extra lowslot an can thus tank equally well compared to the abaddon.

The apoc and navy apoc are more cap stable yes, but I personally do not see why amar ships should not use a booster, what else to do with all the extra cargo space anyway? It makes the ships that much better! The extra range is quite easy to catch up to with a tracking enhancer in the lows and one or two tracking computers in the meds. The navy apoc does seem interesting as it does get great range and decent dps (due to the extra low slot)... however the dps is still noticeably behind the other two.

To sum it up. WHY does none suggest the armageddon and ESPECIALLY the navy arageddon? Seems to be the best ship to me (you even have a spare high slot!)

The navygeddon is an excellent mission ship.. balanced, big tank, big capa, can fit full tach set. If someone says coz of drones, I think you must be drunk.. the navy geddon does big dps on its own (far superior than a Napoc) and can wade thru ANY L4 solo. You can also dual role it in incursions/pvp just think outside the box when rigging (hint: ffs don't put ccc)

Thank you all three for your answers. The take home message (for me) seems to be go for it! It should work, and if not I can always try the other two hulls too.

I still don't see why you would pick a Geddon over Maelstrom, you are just limiting yourself to Amarr space.

Another thing to note is that you will need to train pulses AND beams/tachs and switch them out according to "some" missions for quicker completion times.

With Mael however, you just train for 800mm's and you are good to go.

Oh, almost forgot, you also need to train 1 extra gunnery skill if you go with lasers, Controlled Bursts.

It's your decision on how you want to play and I wish you luck with whichever path you pick...first :P.

P.S. Almost forgot, I've just re-read your first post and you need to train less shield tanking skills than armor to be effective.( ex. shield compensation skills are a joke, and really don't give you any benefit for what you are trying to do. Armor compensation skills however....they make EANM's a lot better so you'd want those skills to 4)
