I have been a mostly PVP and PVE char until now and I want to try trading to make isk. It seems to be more casual and would leave more time to PVP since I have limited time to begin with. What skills would I need to make this faster and any other advice on this topic would be much appreciated.

TL;DR

- Patience 5 / MD Compensations 5
- Accounting 5 (less tax)
- Broker relations 5 (less fee)
- Margin Trading 5 (well 4 is fine if you have enough iskies)
- Corp / Faction standings (assuming it's Jita then CN + CS)
- Trade / Retail / Wholesale / Tycoon - 4 (unless you need gazillion buy/sell slots)

Rest are the skills that allow you to buy/sell/modify distantly.
- Starting cash. Like uh.. 5b? Okay for a start. You may start with much less, just keep in mind that 10% profit is a good profit in the end of the day. Some nuttcracks do billions, but I'm not that much into Garage sales on a sunny day :-)
- Finding a decent niche.
- Market research on items, margin, TZ movement spikes, mineral speculations, upcoming patches with changes etc.
- Friendly haulers if you plan crosshub trading, but then again you need alts to save you time running around.

When you're quite comfortable with all this, you may try manipulations and trolling on MD.

GLHF!

I don't believe casual traders make much isk, unless you're going into it with a lot of funds to begin with and can manipulate the market. You get more pvp per hour in the market than anywhere else in the game.

With the increase in shiptoasting, the Report timer needs to be shortened.

oh contrare', market manipulation? really? if that were true then there'd only be a few successful traders in the whole universe.

I'm right. See? I can post something without contributing to the thread too.

Perhaps if you simply say a "successful" trader is one that makes more money than they spend, yes, you can casually trade in the game. If you're talking about those that make a significant amount of money in the market, I don't believe you can do that casually without a lot of isk involved.

Do you have anything to actually contribute to the thread, or just trolling on a lazy sunday?

Jeronica in my alliance recently release EVE MOGUL. It runs off your api and lets you track profit %. I find it quite useful...some small number items done in bulk have a much better profit margin than larger isk items.
Also it seems everyone goes to Jita to trade...I would suggest a smaller regional hub to start with until you have around 5b isk so you can compete with average traders.
If you do go to Jita don't get sucked into wild market swings...keep your buy orders average market price...it is only a matter of time before the market gets re-flooded and your stuck with a pile of items you have to sit on praying the market gets manipulated again.
