Funny thing about that.

It's going to suck to be Jewish or Muslim with a bad heart?

edit: on a side note, can you use pig stem cells to grow bacon?

When medical necessity meets religious edict, there's usually* a quiet discussion in the back halls amongst the Holy, and a workaround or rationalization is found.

*Christian Scientists being a notable exception. Even some of the Jehovah's Witnesses have made some compromises in regards to blood transfusions.

I don't think it's productive to really 'go where this is going', and it's neither funny nor 'cute'.

Find me the stem cell references and bans in the Bible or Quran.

I can't give you a ban on stem cells in the bible or Qur'an but I can provide you with prohibition of pork in Judaism and Islam, which is obviously what he was referring to.

It wouldn't be Kosher to have a heart of pork.

Depending on the source of the stem cells, or maybe even disregarding the source, the Jehova's Witnesses are going to have some problems with this - their ban on 'consumption of blood' is Biblically-based and widely held, although some segments of the Jehovah's community have found rationalizations of interpretations that will allow some types of blood transfusion. You can expect this technology to hit similar roadblocks and questions within that community.

That being the case, it is not unreasonable to presume or anticipate that some of the more strictly-interpretive groups within Judaism and Islam will also have issues with this technology.

This is why we need to focus on bear more. Who wouldn't want to have the heart of a bear? And bear arms. Dirty bastards said I have the right to bear arms and I have yet to see that offered as a replacement to my current arms. I demand 2 bear arms damnit!

This is less of a blood issue and more of a organ transplant issue, which JW's have always held as an individual choice.

Only so much as the stem cells didn't come from, say, umbical cord blood.
