How do you scan down a gravametric site? I have found them, just not been able to warp to them. Why? I can't scan them down if I can't warp to them, right?

You have to continue scanning them until you reach 100% signal strength, then you may warp to them.

Also, this applies to any type of site including WormHoles.

Just in case you do not know; you need to have at least 4 probes to get a 100% signal. Concentrate on the word "triangulation" and then take that 3D.

A little outdated, but still good: CCPGAMES - EVE Online: Scanning Guide Tutorial

A more recent player one: EVE Online *NEW* Scanning Probe Tutorial

There are many other tutorials on YouTube. Search for "probing" and "scanning" tutorials.

Scanning isn't a very noob-friendly activity, at least scanning for grav sites and similar. You need a lot of bonus in order to do it with some ease, e.g. bonus from ship (exploration frigate skill bonus or T2 Covert Ops bonus) and from the probe launcher, and from the bonus-granting Astrometics skillz.

I don't agree. While it's true that scanning needs certain skills trained and you should have a combat vessel or two capable of clearing a site, scanning is one of the best ways to get newbs out of highsec. An Imicus with a flight of drones can already clear quite a bit, making scanning one of the better professions for newbs to get into.
It has the added benefit of not stranding them with skills that are useless outside of their profession (astrometric skills are useful in lots of ways) and getting them out of carebearville early, teaching them the basics of situational awareness in EVE.

The process of probing is pretty tiresome in the beginning, but i think that exploration is a very sweet path that even lowskilled characters can walk early and with good success. It's more engaging than other newbie professions (Mining! Hauling!) and teaches a lot of skills that will be handy later in whatever niche in EVE they choose.
