This is not an entirely accurate criticism, Msr Inhonores. Kim-haani's thread was a general purpose exhortation to extra effort whilst Vikarion-haan's rallying cry was specifically due to the changing situation in the Warzone. Whatever you may feel about the specific message, and I assure you virtually identical chest-beating can be found in similar FDU threads, this was not a random 'Aren't we awesome?!' circle-jerk.

But Tuulinen-haan, it is common knowledge that the key to any motivational speech aimed at rousing patriotic enlistment MUST involve a scathing introspective railing against the established order. This is the ONLY and TRUE way to raise morale - tell everyone they are just serving iteration X of culture Y and there is no point "Oh God why do I even bother waking up anymore!?". You know, doing the enemy's work for them...

National pride must be a terrifying thing when every so many years you're at the mercy of everyone capable enough to survive to voting age. To mangle a quote; "Democracy is little more than two wolves and a sheep trying to decide what to have for dinner".

I for one applaud both Vikarion and Kim for their dedication to the cause of their people. Disagreements and differing views over the current administration aside, we all agree one thing - we fight for the State. Pride, honour and reward are luxuries we afford ourselves; the State is our protector, guiding hand and the root of the three temporal rewards we may only truly appreciate through patriotic service.

That isn't to say that we Caldari should just blindly follow one way or another of promoting our nation, after all we are founded on internal competition, strife and struggle. The very existence of the three primary blocs is evidence of our healthy practice of improving our system through ideological economics - the strong profit, prosper and grow, the weak are subsumed, or in extreme cases declared destroyed by corporate warfare.

So whether we support Heth and the CPD, or merely do our duty to those who currently reside as overseers of our proud people, we are all in a way patriots. So long as dissent in word doesn't stray to dissent by action, and we all keep our guns firmly trained over the border, I'm willing to tolerate a little misguided liberalism in the name of preserving our way of life. Once the external threat is quiescent once more, we can go back to the good old days of cut and thrust, fighting people we can respect as equals in dedication, instead of foreign chattel unworthy of a eulogy upon the terminal shot and barely worth the cost of said ammunition.
