Construction Blocks, what is happening?

I have noticed the substantial surge that started Day 1 on Dust.
I understand that Dust can impact on PI production, eventually, but I can't see the beta having that much impact on supply.

And I don't know of any other fundamental changes in game mechanics that would have caused the surge.

Any one have ideas, they are willing to share?

BTW, I bought a decent quantity of blocks a long time ago, when PI taxes went way up, thinking that would hugely impact on prices. I was wrong on that call, so pleasantly surprised to see them climbing now.

I just wish I knew why.

I haven't seen a dev blog nor anything in the CSM minutes that indicates Dust is going to impact PI any time soon. It could be market manipulation, the stock piles from the old days drying up, less PI being done or surge in T2 ship building. Last I remember blocks were worth less than the materials used to make them.

Former forum cheerleader CCP, now just a grumpy small portion of the community.

Blocks went over 11K today in Jita.
6 months ago they were about 5400.
The day that Dust limited beta hit they jumped from around 7000 to 9000. That I am sure was manipulation, but the thing I can't get my head wrapped around is they have continued to climb instead of slowly settling after that quick surge.

PI materials in general, or at least the high volume intermediates, have been on a roll lately. In addition to Construction Blocks, take a look at Robotics, Coolant, Mech Parts, Enriched Uranium and Consumer Electronics (which are used in the production of Robotics). They've all soared in recent months.

Dust speculation is probably a factor. Dust may eventually have an impact on the production of planetary resources. Also, the stuff used in Dust may eventually be manufactured by the EVE and/or Dust player base, and planetary materials may end up in the bill of materials used in the manufacture of Dust stuff.

We're closing in on 3 years since PI was implemented, and NPC stockpiles are probably starting to run dry, at least for high volume PI stuff. The manufacturing division of our alliance, for example, bought about a 3 year supply of Construction Blocks, which cost around 475 ISK per unit when they were NPC trade goods. Former NPC prices (approximate) for other high vol intermediates include Robotics, 6980; Coolant, 1150; Mech Parts, 630; and Consumer Elect, 207. Huge stockpiles of all of these were purchased prior to PI, and there are probably substantial inventories still socked away, but production demand has contributed to their rise to values which reflect current production values.

Guidance Systems, the "grand coup" of the PI rollout, have not yet found their equilibrium largely because they just don't get consumed that heavily in production. At a former NPC price of 418 ISK per unit (!), huge quantities were purchased prior to PI, and it could take many more months, quarters or even years for this stockpile to be used up... unless, of course, demand is altered by "new stuff".

The relative attractiveness of doing PI is probably a factor. PI prices in general will rise to a level that incents people to engage in PI.

DUST speculation + diminishing stockpiles + high-sec death of PI due to taxes = increasing prices.

As long as I've played the game, which mind you isn't that long comparatively, very few people have shown an interest in PI even when it was a safe endeavor in high-sec. Now that its only profitable(and I mean that in substantial amounts) in LS,WH, and NS prices will likely increase until more people are driven into it.
