"will reveal one of our best kept secrets; the stars in the space scene nebula actually represent the solar systems of New Eden."

i knew there was something going on when the jumpgates shot a beam at the brightest star in view....

anyways this isnt really relevant to panels but can we add a search feature for ice belts in the starmap? as it is we can find regular belts, stations, services, and star stats like kills/pods/population/securitystatus. but we cant find the nearest ice belt.

At first I was all like, "oooh, cool updates!"

But then I saw this: http://cdn1.eveonline.com/www/newssystem/media/64141/1/route_WEB.png

And now I am all like, "freaking epic!"

Dear CCP,

Your capitalisation of non proper nouns or words that are not in the first position in a sentence (or a fragment of a sentence) is really annoying the ^^~}{ing &*!"@ out of me. It also makes you look stupid. I have long wondered where this fad came from (still don't know, but I suspect it is American in origin).

For example:

Prefer Safer - Stay in 0.5 to 1.0 Where Possible

should be:

Prefer safer - stay in 0.5 to 1.0 where possible

Further examples:

Avoid Systems on Your Avoidance List
Avoid systems on your avoidance list

Disable Autopilot at Each Waypoint
Disable autopilot at each waypoint

Clear All Waypoints
Clear all waypoints

Prefer Shorter - Ignore Security Status
Prefer shorter - ignore security status

What really is bad capitalisation is "All", "Ignore", "Your" and "Each" amazing!

The dropping of the full stop, I kind of accept as it does clutter things up slightly. I'm not going to start on hyphenation as there is almost no correct answer for this.

CCP, please take some antibiotics to fix this disease you have picked up in the last few years.

A year or two ago you wrote a very good blog about the language engine that provides different languages in EVE. It sounds like this needs to be tweaked.

Yours,

Tedric (who himself is crap at English grammar).

Edit: changed non-nouns to non proper nouns.

So you've never heard of title caps? They're doing it right.

First, I'm agree with the voiced opinions that those panels would be better implemented as movable windows and/or accessed via neocom instead of icons which permanently stuck on the screen. Now few little suggestions for autopilot:

Autopilot panel has been around for a couple of years but I (don't know how widespread this is) still can't get used to one aspect of those colored boxes: where is start of the route and where is the end? It's supposed to be obvious that writing direction from right to left is used but for some reason it's always confusing at the first glance. So what about adding eighter "Next" and "Dest" labels to make it easier to get direction (Fig. A.1) or an icon of spaceship at the beginning of the route to denote current position (Fig. A.2)? Or replacing boxes with the arrows (Fig. A.3)?

Another feature that will help traders remotely manage their orders and query regional prices would be a way to see region boundaries on the route like it is shown on the Fig. B.1 (looks better imho) or Fig. B.2 (probably would be easier to implement).

Picture: http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/2953/44100813.png

Also, looking at the mockups of future panels it looks like you are aiming for quite high degree of customizability so it may be worth asking for an option to hide constellation information from autopilot route and current location panels (show "SYSTEM SS < REGION" instead of current "SYSTEM SS < CONSTELLATION < REGION")? I play EVE for 9 years and can't imagine why one would be interested in constellation info (maybe for incursions only?) while hiding it will improve interface clarity.

Your confusion comes from thinking that EVE uses a right to left system to order things. Because the default language EVE is designed for is English, and it's interface is designed to follow English standards, text and interface elements are default ordered beginning on the left, end on the right.

Perhaps this is a problem for the localization team? To have lists in the interface oriented according to language standards? Because personally, we already have a unique icon to indicate which system in the list is the destination, so I don't see a need for further hand holding to help us figure this out.

As for the dev blog, I love all these changes, especially the visible route in the stars. THAT is the kind of interface I'm looking forward to seeing more of!

this is what we want, simplier UI and cool stuff even if it's not big features

Next thing you should adress is spreadsheet-like overview. Make it a dynamic menu with configurable setting like these present change and eve ui will shine

Very nice! Few suggestions:

The compact mode of the AP is missing the "Jumps to go", which is by far the most important info if you're moving in a fleet! Also, it makes a lot more sence to me to display the destination instead of the next system on the route. You can see the next system in space anyway if you're looking at the overview - yellow stargate! Another option would be to hide const & region in compact mode and simply display next system, destination, jumps to go in one line.

Regarding that awesome wip: http://content.eveonline.com/www/newssystem/media/64141/1/GOD2.png
Will it be possible to rightclick the celestials in the list and have all the options available which you also have at the space context menu, but w/o going thru all the sub menus to moon x on planet y at z distance?

Nope. Time to do some reading.

Edit: OK. Some reading has been done. The Title Capitals thing does explain what is going on with the above examples. What I'm still surprised as is the classification of these descriptions as titles.

Would it be possible to add, either as a new optional info panel, or as an addition to the auto-pilot, a favourites list, where we could add solar systems, stations, belts etc ?

Please keep eliminating ugly window screens in the future.

'Show route path in space' shows the way to the future!

Ummer or how it could look, as a couple of people have also indicated the fact that the stars in the background are 'real' should be made more use of in the future.

Currently the star map, solar system map are very awkward to use and map browser is almost useless. Imagine if on the hud to the left next to the tactical overlay button there was enable map features... Then when enabled all the 'World Map Control Panel' features could be overlaid in space. While in this mode it would be great to be able to zoom out and highlight the solar system view, constellation, region and universe view then back again. Darn even if things like scanner probes could be moved around then it would actually feel like scanning in space or if we could see the directional scanner sweeping through space in the direction we are scanning.

This would actually make using the map a pleasurable experience as well as contributing to the emersion of being in space.

Looking forward to more :)

THIS!!!!! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

It would be EPIC if hitting F10 and/or clicking on a new HUD Button would enable a Tactical Overlay type Map function over the real starscape in the background! Not sure if it's technically feasible, but it would kick some major booty! Pirate

As far as UI goes, that's the most ringing endorsement you can get I believe Big smile

I saw in the last two pictures, you had all the planets in a system listed out on the system info panel. Can we click those and warp to them?

Yes, the idea is that once all warpable celestialsand other elements in your solar system are available there you won't need to use the Right-Click to select them and then their options in a sub-level or have them visible in the Overview anymore (you still can, but this method should be better). You will have the ability to use the Right-click option directly on the celestials to perform an action, or use shortcut keys to do the action directly without going into the Right-click at all.

This is the basic idea and the goal would be to make this the most effective and efficient way to navigate to elements in your solar system and allow you to fully customize the view of these elements in the System Info Panel.
