Once you reach 130m+ SP those spec 5 skills are very tempting.

I got Large Autocannons Spec V.
But only because i wanted to be a perfect Machariel pilot ( Perfect gunnery skills + Large Autocannon Spec V + Gallente and Minmatar Battleship V + 6% Implants for Autocannons: 6% Large projectile damage and 6% all turret damage ).

Only if you want to take this path and use the ship very often it's good to get Large autocannons spec V and you can afford the ISK for PLEX for those months training all those skills to V and if you can afford the 6% implants.

Otherwise don't waste your time in getting Large Autocannons Spec V

Nice toon Mashie! Tbh, I have no desire to train any of the cap skills either or else autocannon V could have waited. I do like the idea of having perfect ship skills for those ships I enjoy flying like the Curse or the Rattlesnake. Well, not yet perfect for the Rattlesnake because I dont have cruise missile spec. to V and dont plan to in the near future. The Drone specialization skills to V I could justify with all the drone ships I fly and they help in PVP and PVE.

Yes, but again, Amarr drone specialization V doesn't really help in PvP or PvE. No, really.

It's a month. A whole month of training. In the twenty-ish days (unless you remap memory/perception, which you shouldn't) it takes you to bring Amarr drone specialization to V, you could have almost maxed a racial Battleship to V, taken two sensor compensations to V, or trained all e-war skills to IV (primary and secondary).

Wasting a month for Amarr drone spec V is gimping your character. It's falling behind a whole month. The only Amarr drones worth a damn (and not really) are Curator II's...which don't even require the skill at all.

We can live in hope that the Amarr drones will one day get a buff. I've trained it to 5 on my alt, but only because he was mapped for drones and I had no intention of revisiting the Mem/Will map with him.

Hello all. Just got done training all racial drone skills to V and wondering was all that really worth it!? 19 plus days apiece. Now thinking of training Autocannon Specialization to V. Am I a tool or just a complete tool? Seriously though, is it worth it? Thoughts?

From someone who has been playing since 2006 (unless you recently bought the character or account) you should know better. Racial drone skills to 5 was a HORRID waste of training time imo. Especially seeing that you will normally only use Gal or Min drones...

That being said taking gunnery/missile specs to 5 is a pretty big waste of time IF you have anything else that is even remotely worth training. Those 3 weeks of training could get you so much more bang for your buck. That is taking a large gun system to t2 and their specs to 4 or taking a racial BS to 5.

You should get out of the mind set that taking a skill to 5 is something that needs to be done. Most skills I train I take to 4 unless they are needed to unlock an advanced skill or module. I mean, you just spent 100 days training all racial drone skills to 5... do you know how little impact that is going to make in any combat situation?

I have all medium short range gun specs to 5, large blaster+large rail spec 5, and some assorted other small/medium specs to 5.

It's worth it if you use them and have plenty of sp.

EDIT: Two more things:

1.) Training drone specs that aren't gallente/minmatar to 5 is a total waste of time; they're terrible.
2.) Not sure what the hell else you guys are training, but unless you're going really heavy into capital warfare, I'd imagine you should start considering spec 5s around anywhere from 60-90m sp depending on how specialized you like to be... you guys throwing out numbers like 100-130 are way off base imo.

It might actually be counterproductive.

Having Amarr drone Specialization V could make you forget they suck, you end up bringing Amarr light, medium or heavy drones to a fight and they contribute to your downfall.

I can not justify training for nearly 3 weeks for a 2% increase.

Not when there's so much else to train in other areas which gives more benefits in a shorter time.

But ymmv. If you got nothing else to train for, or if you just totally want to max out on your current playstyle, go for it.

When you have been skill training for nearly 10 years without a break most of the training goes into these 2% gains.Ugh

After nearly 10 years you'll run out of things to train, sure.

A lot of people, if not most, are not anywhere near that. So again, YMMV.
