At the very least, CCP could allow me to make ascii signatures that don't **** up the formatting.

Please note that ASCII art is not permitted in the forum signatures. Spitfire

No, quite wrong, the logical conclusion would be the ability to upload images into the forum and use them from inside, there are a truck load of advantages to have all unified in one platform development wise which in turn provides better and more features for us.
Yeah, and we're seeing those advantages now. Logic ain't your strong suit.

For that to happen the signature would need to be enclosed with the PRE tags ( http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_pre.asp ) to not loose formatting (technically, it's to prevent your browser from styling your signature) in return, by doing so, you couldn't have in your signature any kind of text formatting, bold, italic, underlining, colors, etc.

Changing all this can't be done in 1 single go, I'm aware I'm playing devil's advocate here, but hell, I do know quite well how this things work/are/happen, you don't seem to. I'm not discussing resource planning, it's not the issue here, the issue you brought is separation, which I replied why I think it's bad, and you reply cynically about my logic when it's not me responsible about resource planning.

As I said earlier, what we write is our opinion, I do respect yours as much as you respect mine, which clearly you didn't, thus I'll reply accordingly, knowledge about the specific issue at hand is not your strong suit.

as far as I am aware we're still waiting for the post-mortem on April's forum issues we were promised...

CCP never responded about the "serious issue" which was "How could a product in this state ever be released? What was the dev team smoking? What processes were improved in response? " and instead gave us a contentless fluff piece on "your credit card info was never at risk"

Instead of responses to the tough questions (for 5 months!) we get FUD about the impossibility to implement img tags in a safe fashion...

I'm just glad to have it connected to EVE gate. It actually makes EVE gate a functional piece of community software, before it was separated all over the place.

Don't stop iterating, and everything will be glorious.

Images ASAP though - we need our ponies... Ascii ponies just don't cut out Sad

Actually we have responded to the issue in greater detail in multiple venues. Including at EVE Vegas just last month.

Sorry, but I just have to point out here, no matter how moot the point is now, that this is the price for doing something like connecting forums to the game systems.

I can't say that I agree with the entire idea of eating up ssl for forum posts, I don't know at this point if having the game data access from the forum page is even useful.

Is there some broader idea behind taking the route of exposing this data to the point of needing to run the forums over SSL?

Privacy, protecting you and your data, in a perfect world, every website should be with SSL on, unfortunately they cost money, in the end, the pros justify the cons right now imo.

Its a sad day when CCP devs talk to us about security and quality coding, and EvE patch day has become the laughing stock of game world, and patch for the patch for the hot-fix for the above mentioned patch.

Oh ... and apparently Florestan and I were the only two who couldn't make it to Vegas. I was wondering why the streets were so quiet that weekend. How embarrassing.

Well, could someone who was at one of these multiple venues please summarize the conclusions for us?

You'll get it for free, just wait a bit. I prefer a working forum with features added over time (= image upload etc.) instead of having tons of half done stuff instantly.

You know, it might actually be faster to built a browser add-on to display images (just parse the [img] tags) than wait for CCP to do it.

I cannot believe you are talking about security issues.

If you code correctly, there are none.
If you are not a total moron, there are none.

Neither can I believe you are talking about time needed.

I think I've posted about these missing images before in the test forums, that was about... oh, lets see... 3 months ago?

Seems like enough time to talk about and fix any kind of security flaw.

Why do you consistently fail to come across as competent, speedy and listening to your community? I just cannot fathom the reasons you have for continuing to fail at those very important things.

The problem is that the forum already HAS these features, they are just not enabled. CCP didn't even have to do anything for them, since they're in the forum package by default, tested, and probably secured (if it's a good forum package) by the developers. Of course, it might be possible CCP broke stuff, but even I would be hard pressed to break something as simple as the [img] tag...

You can resolve this in a very clean (not to mention nove,l in gaming anyways) fashion by alotting a small amount of storage space on your web server for signature images for your users. That way you can both enforce size/weight for signature images and be sure that there is no off-site shenanigans going on.

If you were feeling particularly generous you could later expand this to include storage for screenshots and the like to be used on the (completely unused) EVE gate so we can share our experiences with other capsuleers as was the mission statement.

There, see? i can do it!

And that is one of a number of options being considered, not being evasive we just haven't finished going over options and planning out workloads. The important thing is

1. we do want to provide an ability for embedded signature images
2. we want to make sure it's done securely and doesn't impact performance

We love you too (^_^)

I actually care not. I took care of it myself :P

Shame this will never work in IGB. It could actually be ported to FF and probably IE in some obscure way. Just for your information, this took about an hour, and I'd never worked with chrome extensions before.
