I noticed in a post some time ago that you were looking into making off grid boosting into on grid boosting. I think you suggest a sphere around the boosting ship were the bonuses would be active (I like this idea).

As off grid boosting is a constant pain in FW often to the point where no-one wants to engage in battle if this is not equal on both sides I would welcome an ETA of some sort.

The day after team grind lock figure out how to do it without breaking everything else, they be gone.

Said so in the CSM minutes unless I read them wrong.

Of course, it becomes a concern as to whether this will include ships intended to boost PvE concerns, such as mining.

Will these boosting modules be exempt, and permit the typical current shielded boosting ability at a POS?

Let's say you have a BC, and you use it in support of mining with one of these boosters for duration on mining lasers.
(Useful tactic, the BC can also remove NPC rats for the miners if they have bigger ones causing probs)

Or will it be ship specific, the ORCA and RORQUAL getting a pass for off grid, but being limited to indy boosts only?

Mining lasers have never generated a km in the history of the game so there's really no issue with their boosts other than the usual whiners venting.

My humble suggestion, cut and paste the code for HIC bubbles, or smart bombs. If you're in the Area of Effect you win, if you fall out you loose. It's not so very much to ask people to stay awake in a fight and pay attention to whether they're 35 or 55 k away from the booster.

Hopefully not for a very long time (unless they dramatically change how a lot of the game works).

Amongst my many uses for my boosting alt (which gets used for PVP and PVE) includes quite a lot of situations in PVE where I've got one char boosting from a safe in system and 2 other chars in completely different grids doing completely different things.

While I'm not one to do that much mining one example thats fairly simple and easy to understand by people who have never actually bothered with boosters but want them nerfed because they just want quick and easy ganks would be if I had one char mining an anom and another mining at a belt and the booster char sitting in a safe boosting tank and mining links.

The issue is not about mining or ratting
It is about these countless times where an unexpected merlin suddenly goes unexpected 6k m/s and scrams you at 18km so that even if you are in an interceptor you can´t outrun him. Ideallly he has loki plus tengu boosts and so high shield resistances that he is able to kill a hawk in a brawl^^
Or these countless times when ab drams go almost 4k m/s. They have practically missile invulnerability then.
Not to mention 8.5k m/s mwd drams....
Game is completely broken because of this sh.....
I WANT A FIX!!!

How long will it be before those that asked for this, then complain about the new changes?

think bubbles. then think boosting. then think bubbles which boost fleet with in the bubble insted of stopping people from warping off? keep old nerfed offgrid boosting. and make ON grid boosting 2x more effective BUT ongrid boosting overwrites the offgrid boosts (so you cannot stack) and make the booster ship have some sort of visual so its more a target/vunerable point to counterbalance the uber ONgrid boosts

PS: Dear Fozzie, can you please fix this. Even if its just a tiny bit of damage, like 0.1 dps or something...
Salvagers too! Winmatarbane

On a slightly more serious note, what would it be possible to break the boosting bonus up, so that you get say 1% off grid and 3% on grid? It's not ideal, but it is better.

Do individual grids have their own internal ID, or is it possible to do this? How do you determine who is on grid, considering all of the grid-fu tactics available, so you can populate the overview? Perhaps do the same with boosting.

(And the Orca and Rorq are designed to be mining boosters and mining support, ie, on-grid with the mining fleet)

I want to see kill mails where the victim is a ganking ship, and all the involved parties are listed as barges and exhumers, and all the weapons are various mining lasers...

Laugh if you like, but the very idea that an exhumer could rip apart an attacking cruiser with it's modulated deep core lasers feels like a lot of fun... and oddly more balanced too...

It would be a two way fight then... hmmmmm....

I would not suggest the design wanted the indy support off grid. With those tractor beam bonuses like this that would be bizarre.

That said, current play styles are being permitted which don't acknowledge how the orca or rorqual function. Sticking them in the POS is a typical improvise that is seen a lot.

It is accepted that where the rorqual operates, the miners often use local as a warning tool for knowing when to evacuate belts for safety.
A rorqual in compression mode would have no chance, and be left behind. And it only gets the bonus when in that mode.
If you force players to choose between the convenient warnings being offered, and using the rorqual to it's fullest, I think they are most likely going to choose the convenient warnings.

Should they be playing this way?
Human nature says they will always take the easiest path that they can get away with using.

Changing that is not the topic of this thread.

Thanks for the input. The CSM minutes made it sound like this change is like waiting on a miracle to happen.

Is there someone or some team specifically assigned to correct this, or will there be at some point?

People are speculating what the technical difficulty is.

Would making the boosts a duration based help the issue?
