I saw a news show the other day that said Messi is probably the best soccer player ever and that Barcelona is a current dynasty squad like no other before. Is this kind of true or just active player hype?

Also, I was reading about Peter Schmeichel. How does a goalkeeper end up scoring so much? Does he get the ball and dribble all the way down field for a shot?

Whether he is THE best soccer (football for us EU folk) player ever I can't answer that but it's heavily debated.... Alot of people would argue that Pele, Maradona, Platini, Cruyff etc. were the greatest players that ever lived. Messi is the best football player in the world at the moment with Ronaldo not very far behind him. Extremely impressive to watch, the hype is probably justified to an extent imho.

Yeh Peter Schmeichel was always a funny one, he actually (could be a rumour) started off very early in his career as a striker but his position was changed to goalkeeper probably by a coach at the time who thought he had potential (I'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong). He scored goals for Man Utd, for example dying minutes in the game Man Utd trailing win a corner and as a last ditch attempt everyone in the Man Utd team including the keeper was in the oppositions box. Schmeichel having an eye for goal would nick the odd goal from time to time!!

The all out desperation attack sounds cool to watch. I played recreation indoor here for several years and when it got down to less than a minute and one team had to do or die, it was always tense.

As for American football the best player ever is John Elway. Period. No debate (at least none that I'll consider!).

Always amazed to see so many major sports in the US which includes Football, Baseball, Basketball, Soccer, Ice Hockey etc.... What sport out of all of these pull in the biggest crowds?

The UK has various sports other than Soccer but they rarely ever pull in big crowds i.e. Cricket, Shinty etc

Watching sports in the US is a lot like watching movies: it all depends on your personal tastes, and there's something for everyone.

For example, playing baseball is one of the most difficult and rewarding sports I've ever played, and when you do well in it (get a home run, double play, diving catch), you feel like you've really accomplished something very difficult because it takes a tremendous amount of hand-eye coordination. Watching baseball, on the other hand, is a lot like watching grass grow...especially if the teams are really good. No one gets on base, no one gets a hit, etc., and 9+ innings of nothing. Most people go to baseball games just to eat hotdogs and drink beer all day.

i like how you guys constantly break up the games(all games :S), so there is time for commercials... really makes it engaging to watch...

Pretty sure an international rugby match will pull a bigger crowd than an international football match.

Theres a few Goalkeepers that have scored from thier thier own box.
When it happens it's generally always an impressive feat, as the other goalie and his defenders are required to misjudge the balls bounce.

Goalkeepers will occasionally leave thier own area for offensive set-pieces too, but it doesn't happen often as it leaves thier team extremely vulnerable to a counter attacking play, but when it does happen it's usually a move of desperation when the manager makes the 'get forward' motion to his goalkeeper.

Messi .. is one of the better players of his generation.

Best Player ever ??
Nope .. the best players ever are long dead, they worked 40+ hr jobs and played 46+ matches a season , they had to deal with harder aggressive tackling, a heavier ball aswell as frozen or muddy pitches, all the conditions that would make messi cry like a girl and run for his mother.

They also usually played Cricket to extremely high degree aswell, all whilst working a full time job.
