Amazing.

It supposedly takes thousands of people and hundreds of millions of dollars to do that according to 'experts'.

He must be using witchcraft. It's the only explanation.

It doesn't look nearly as good as professional A-movie quality, but it's good enough to get the job done. I'm guessing it's also one of the reason why he chose aliens instead of humans, so the lack of finer details isn't immediately obvious to the viewer. Still better then most b-movies can put out, so maybe new ways for non-mainstream/niche movies to be implemented without sucking horribly.

Even the best have trouble doing humans perfectly without being trapped in uncanny valley. CGI is used mostly for landscapes, things exploding, and aliens. They put any humans in front of a greenscreen.

Unless they're building all the hardware and software from scratch for every movie, which they certainly do not, i just can't make sense of where the money is going. Maybe the first ones, like Jurassic Park (which had a budget of 63 million), were so advanced for the time, when CGI wasn't so common, those prices were justified, but now that it's a big industry with lots of competition, it doesn't make sense why it now costs hundreds of millions. Especially when we have cheap or even free software that can allow a single person to do something like this. Slightly more detailed textures or lighting you'd get with more expensive, top-tier, software wouldn't mean a price jump to 100-200 million from 50 bucks.

It would cost Pixar 200 million dollars and take 800 animators to improve those textures.

10k hours at 16 hours a day is over 20 months (at 8 hours a day it's 41 months).
