So I am maybe a month or two into the game. I started doing LVL 1 missions and wanted to make tons of ISK so I started mining. I eventually wandered to low sec and was destroyed by gankers. I am really interested in learning so that I don't have to be afraid of low sec anymore. If anyone has any ideas, thoughts, or suggestions...please help me out. Also, yes, I know I'm a noob I stated that already everyone has to start somewhere and you were once at the point I am so keep the insults to yourselves. These are generally my skills the list is missing a few...

Try the recruitment channel in-game or take a look at this section of the forums. Get into an active corporation -- it'll make all the difference.

As the above noted, drop your PvE corp. Some of the worst places to go is a PvE corp that "has PvP experienced pilots" and give you false information or ideas.

I think Eve University does a good job training new pilots.

Spoken like a true Tribal Liberation Force pilot.

You forgot the cloak, though.

Join a Faction Warefare corporation... best way to learn PVP and to make the necessary ISK to survive the losses which will come with this.

this is what i did since i was in your same shoes a little over a year ago when i started playing EVE:

join faction warfare. (set your overview for faction warfare...you can find guide on that)

choose a frigate you want to fly around in (the condor/atron/executioner/slasher is good place to start then move onto merlin/incursus/tormentor/rifter or w/e).

Fly the ship until you can get tech 2 weapons, tech 2 defenses (like MSE for shield ships and/or EANM for armor ships), tech 2 prop mod (afterburner, mwd doesn't have to be tech 2). make sure to put rigs on your ship (just tech 1 for now)

try to keep your frigate fits affordable: less than 10 mil if possible.

each engagement (win or loss) make a note about what happened, you can do this on eve-kill or a personal log. explain what happened and why you won or lost.

go to enemy controlled systems and use your system scanner to open anything that is called "novice [faction name] [dungeon type]". you kill the rat and wait for pvp. if the "plex" closes and you don't get pvp then you get a lot of loyalty points. you may also get pvp and win so you get pvp and loyalty points. you may also get pvp and lose and not get any loyalty points.

eventually you'll get into destroyers and you'll do the same thing above except you'll look for "small [faction name] [dungeon type]" plexes. you can also take assault frigates into them.

The best advice though in my opinion is to NOT jump into the biggest ship possible.

Start with frigates, move onto destroyers, then move onto either cruisers or assault frigates. Make sure you are very comfortable with your fits, combat, etc. before moving onto the next size ship.

This will sound odd, but forget frigs at the start go to Destroyers. You simply don't have the skills to win a lot of fights in a frig, but with a Destroyer like the Thrasher you get 7 guns which add much more DPS than a typical 3 gun frig. Set your self up a bunch of cheap t1 fit Arti Thrashers and go play in low sec,

It's how we always had our brand new guys start out.

OP, I suggest joining FW, picking a frigate you like and suits your skills, go into lowsec and find some plexes (outposts) run them, and wait for pew. Sometimes people will find and fight you, sometimes they won't. Good part is you make lots of isk in the process

This is probably the most helpful bit I've seen! Thank you so much for taking the time to describe it! It is much appreciated.

What this guy said is good advice.

I know sometimes it's difficult to realize just how much you spend on incidental things each month or year, but seriously, EVE is very cheap entertainment compared to most things... If you are a smoker, smoke one less pack a week and pay for EVE, with money left over to pick up a cheap bundle of flowers for the EVE widow upstairs.

I've been having issues getting in to EvE Uni myself. They keep telling me they want more info about me, but is not much to my background. I read all of the questions multiple times and answered to the the best of my abilities, but I feel like they want me to make up some fiction to fill in the lack of information.

It reminded me of English class and writing reports... which I mostly got Ds and Cs..

The whole thing turned me off from going the whole EvE Uni direction to learn.

I've been playing EvE for 2 years, I am now making 10b+/month casually trading with my one station trader, I am bored of just station trading and I want to pew pew, so I purchased a 38m sp char with perfect elite core/def skills. I love making friends, respect other people's time, and learn from my mistakes.

I don't know why it's so hard for me to get in to EvE Uni.

I respect what they do, but my limited experience has left me feeling a bit rejected.

My Friday rant... meh.Roll

P.S. I assume my responses to their questions were of a D grade. I really am bad at that kind of stuff.

Bah to eve uni!

I totally respect what they are trying to do but man is it a PITA to get along with them....

Try looking at some of the Agony classes these are top notch to get you started in pew.

There are also others like Black Dragon Fighting Society (the feeder corp for the Black Rebel Rifter Club) and Heretic Uni etc. that while they aren't a training organisation will fly with you and give advice to questions asked etc. Normally the biggest issue new pvper's have is funding but if that isn't then TBH one of these groups will suit you better than eve uni.

Other options is FW like mine that are more than willing to help/advise on fits/tactics etc and once again if isk isn't an issue your best bet is just find an active friendly corp and go get stuff blown up!

That is the Way, the Tao.

Balance is everything.
