Hi,

Is it allowed to use

The SweetFX shaders

I some games it "pimps" the graphics somewhat, so I wanted to ask.

Thanks in advance

in general:

If it modifies the client in any way, no, you're not allowed.

If you want to know for sure, petition it.

i've petitioned this last december, so far there has been no reply.

SweetFX is loaded placing a dll in the games directory, making use of the dll in the work directory being loaded before a dll from wherever directx stores its dlls is loaded.
while this is not modifying the client per se, it is a modification on how the client interacts with directx, and therefor could be interpreted as a client modification. so, i wouldn't use it before there is an official statement on this.

Agreed with Peter.

SweetFX injects itself (and components) between DirectX and the game, supposedly creating better graphics.
While this is not a modification in the sense of file editing, it's still modifying the behaviour of the graphics.

Wait for an official CCP answer before attempting to use it.

basically it allows you to add shaders for post processing allowing you to modify the graphics more to your liking (make the picture have more contrast, other colors... )

Thanks for the replies.

Naturally I won't use it till an official response that it is OK.
Maybe Peter gets someday a replay to his petition or we get an official post in forum.

Hey,

I'm also interessted in using (perhaps, if it is allowed) SweetFX in Eve.

Is there any ccp-guy who can give statement on this please ?

SweetFX is for low-sys-spec pc's or notebooks a good alternative to get better looking graphics with a very (very very very ^^) low cost of system performance.

It doesn't modify the game game play at all and does not inject any code as well, I think as of now its a gray area and I really don't think there going to ban for it in my opinion.

posting gm responses is not allowed, so i won't copy the answer i received,
however i don't think i will get slapped for mentioning that the result is that i will not be using sweetfx.

Thats how eve could look like:

Full Screen 27"(2560x1440) : screenshot
(No postprocessing, PS or similar just ingame screenshot)

SweetFX Settings(16xSMAA, 9xFXAA, HDR, Color shader). If someone is interested in my SweetFX Config file, feel free to mail me. (I'm still not completely satisfied whith my settings - to much gamma).

At my screen resolution FXAA is so much faster than ingame SMAA . Sharpness, especially the edges and textures, is phantastic! Marginal FPS drop.

SweetFX modifies the DirectX environment without changing the client. It's a screen pimp tool. EVE would look too colorful and probably clearer. It would give an unfair advantage to those using it. Supposedly it also lets you see cloaked ships.

yup. You could definitely use this to see cloaked ships.

You could also use this to highlight rare ore in an asteroid belt.

or anything else.
