Stealing from a can and security status (high sec)

I'm wondering why when someone steals from a can there is no security rating hit? I mean, you are allowed to fire upon them for stealing (usually this is what they want), but the act of stealing itself.. without a sec status penalty you are basically condoning theft. Maybe I'm missing something but what is the rationale behind this mechanic?

No security rating hit.

You are flagged for 15 minutes to the corporation you took from, or to the pilot in case of NPC corporations.

Thing is, items in space used to be free for all.

Then carebears cried that evil people are taking their loot. So CCP implemented the flagging system. Now carebears cry for having their ships blown up due to not understanding the aggression mechanics.

Fun cycle. :)

Disclaimer: I do not actually play this game, I just forum warrior.

Security hits only come from acts that would bring in CONCORD or in the case of low sec, would have the sentry guns after you

Theft is not a crime, it's a decision. If another player is offended by that decision, it's their option to deal with it amongst themselves.

As to CCP's motives: they have always said that they encourage conflict between players. This mechanic allows for "consensual PvP."

I dont think ccp is really rational behind it, its more a random choice and ccp likes to support theft and crime in general.
Check the roles and titles from corp management and you see more possibilities to destroy and steal then make stuff secure.

The decision for flagging ships for can theft was made by the hordes of miners complaining that they couldn't do anything about their ore being stolen... now they can.

They can...but they're carebears. Muahahahah.

Just be careful if you're in an Ibis stealing ore from a Covetor. Lol

I like to lick things.

Eve is a dark Game if u came to it Expecting Frolicking amongst the Star-Flowers... you just lost your ship. stealing loot shouldnt cause a security hit, it just wouldnt make sense since in RL it cant really be controlled that way either.
the Flagging system is perfect.

This is a Signature, It makes people Stare. (Man I gotta Make one , or Find one to steal)

But at least they have the choice.

I have used this against thieves/griefers on many occasions to good effect.

They should probably have a warning pop-up like they do for illegal actions to help out the new guys a bit. Or do they have one already?

Kind of makes sense, doesn't it?

The only way to protect your stuff is to keep it in your cargo hold. If you toss it out into space, it's there for the taking...no? P

Hey Don....

In a way it's a good thing. Eve forces players to learn and adapt, if they dont then the game wont be as challenging and fun :)
I accept the game for what it is, and take it from there in my almost 2 yearsof playing.
