Are there any services for interaction away from the computer?

Hi

I'm a long time MMORPG gamer that has recently fallen head over heals for Eve Cool

I'm loving it's freedom & the complexity that brings and would love to be able to interact with the universe whilst I'm not at my home computer. I've done some searching but can only find 'stat viewers' rather than anything that effects my position in-game.

Are there any services like this out there? Perhaps a site from which I can buy and sell materials, or re-organise my skill queue, OR put the two together so that I can discover things that I want to do online and raise money to buy/equip the gear ready for when I get home?

Cheers for taking the time to read my post.

You cannot affect the in-game universe from outside. The only thing you can do is send / reply to emails via the EVE gate and your profile at the top of the screen here.

You CAN see market prices at EVE Central, and you can use offline tools such as the EVE Fitting Tool (EFT) to play with ship fittings and EveMon to plan out your skill trainings and see how long they'd take or what attribute remaps would be optimal. But you cannot set your skills to train from within Evemon.

Otherwise Evelopedia above is your friend, along with various guides, for information about the game.

Pretty much it ^

You could try using a remote desktop type application to access your EVE client though :D

Also CCP is in the development of an API called CREST that will allow 3rd party developers to interact directly with the server to achive things much like EVEGate's mail system works. This could expand to market tools, out of game chats, or even some versions of super thin clients.

We might even get some functionality within EFT to have it buy a fit for you or something.

Minimal functionality CREST beta should be happening soon if not already (don't quite remember).

Pretty much this, all the out of game interaction, aside from eve gate and now dust 514, is made possible by the work of certain eve players and their work towards making eve a better experience for us. Currently the api system is read only in order to prevent people from using the api to cheat or cause mayhem with the server. CREST is supposed to open the doors for some data to start being sent back to the server from these programs by vetting the individual software publishers and issuing developer licences to them, thus allowing two way functionality in a much more controlled environment than the current api

I just scanned everyone's posts. One thing I didn't see was applications for iPhone etc....although you cant interact with the game as others have already stated "NEOCOM" for iPhone is awesome. It basically does everything Evemon does: fitting service plans, mail check, skill plans and monitoring, market orders, sales trans, much much more. And I believe its created and backed up by CCP. I highly recommend it if you have that phone. Android has nothing close to it.

While the posters above me are correct that there is currently no "write" access to Eve from outside the client, there are some ways to get "the Eve experience" out of game, through player run services. While it doesn't technically affect anything in game, you can do stuff like gamble via EOH Poker, or SOMER Blink (or others), through any browser. This is possible because the interaction is strictly between you and the player service. Giving or receiving ISK/items from them can still only be done while in game (both for you and for them) but other interaction can be done anytime.

That's as close as you can get to in-game interaction without the Eve client right now, though.

Ed: I'm not endorsing losing all your money gambling P; I simply couldn't think of any other examples of out-of-game services which can be interacted with without the Eve client. Gambling services are for-profit and you will lose ISK (similar to a real casino), so play mindfully.

I've lost track of how many hours I've spent on the Neocom iPhone app. Built hundreds of good and bad fits for ships.

Thanks for all the replies!

Sounds like I need to download Neocom & keep a watchful eye on CREST developments.

Home desktop left online with Teamviewer (or VNC, or similar) running, log in from tablet or phone.

It's not very good (for the obvious reasons), but quite enough for skill changes, market trades, installing and delivering jobs... basically anything you can do without undocking.
Some people actually haul, mine or even run missions like that, but they're masochists.

Thanks for this, others have mentioned remote desktops as well so I'm looking into one called 'splash top THD'. They claim to be good enough to game on...

Teamviewer is free for personal use and also works on most devices, including Android.
