Serpentis Vigil Escalation: A warning!

Not sure if I had ever done an escalation fron one of these or not. Don't think I ever will again. Shocked

Was something about boosters and a lady on the radio. I did the first two parts, crap rewards. Logged off for the night.

Logged back in after DT, remembered I still had an escalation going and hoped it might get better, so I figured I'd run one more part to see. The location was only two jumps from where I am normally based so I hopped in my exploration Loki to check it out.

I use this same Loki to do DED 4/10 Sepentis Phi Outposts with ease. No drones, set up for AC's DPS, Fed Navy web with a Caldari Navy Invul Field and Pithi A-Type Kinetic and C-Type thermal amps. Approx 30K ehp.

I fly to escalation system and warp to site. To my surprise I see not only the usual cruiser and frig rats but 2 Serpentis Battleships also. Normally I kill everything, not just the Shadow loot carrier. I start killing the rats and when I fire on the first BS I notice a Mayday Message in local. Oh and these BS are very fast with MWD's. I start on the second BS and another Mayday message appears and then all Hell breaks loose!

In warps two more BS's, approx 8 cruisers and 6 frig rats, right on top of me. I am instantly:

1. Perma damped by ALL the cruisers
2. ALL 5 frigs are alternating between webbing and scramming me, staying just out my now very short lock range of around 6.5 km due to VERY heavy damping. I am barely moving at all.
3. The incoming DPS is BAD, much worse thean the whole second room of the PHI outpost, and I am screwed. In fact the DPS from these few ships reminds me of Angel Extravaganza!

I fire up a second client with my main character in his Boosting Sleipnir and he fleets me and starts heading my way, and I am still dying :(

FC toon doesn't make it in time and I watch my Billion+ isk Loki go POP! Dead, gone, finis!

I sit there in my POD and check my wreck. The Caldari Navy Invul field and The Pithi A-Type amp have dropped, but gone are the sisters expanded launcher and a Fed navy Web and Republic Fleet Gyro stab and TE. Ouch!!!!!!!!!!!!

I fire up a third client on my laptop with my 70M SP BS killer in his Maelstrom set up to tank Serpentis rats. I have over 750M sitting in that wreck and I gotta get it.

Bottom line, I beat them with the Mael and the Sleipnir and get my shinies back....what's left of them. Oops

The Maelstrom had to use his X-Large ASB just to tank these few rats! Hardly ever use it in Level 4's.

I go over to the Shadow Serpentis rat to check his loot drop...

A frakkin Brass Tag!

I felt like I was hotdropped by NPC's....and new Loki has drones :D

Bad luck dude,

Good read though! I've never had anything but tags drop on these escalations - tho they are fun to chase around - never gotten all the escalations to finish a sequence though. But I've only ever had one bit of dead space stuff drop from exploration sites - most of the time all I've gotten was tags and faction ammo and some top tier named tech I modules.

Nice read though!

This is the exact reason I refuse to fit anything expensive to my mission tengu and/or exploration tengu. Ive come to close to losing a ded fitted tengu to blood raiders because of their neuts. My alts RR domi is what kept me alive that time.

Im glad you posted this though. Sorry about your loss.

On a related note, I think that there should be "mission reports" on escalations, and since you have quite a lot of time to go for one...

The cherry on top is the loot (or lack thereof). This must be NPCs getting revenge for the tens of thousands of their brethren that are slaughtered in highsec L4s every day, through the one medium that all EVE players know and fear... trolling.

If you stick any unrated or ded name into google it will show you 10 different reports, and you'll be able to discern spawns, loot type and escalation name, escalation locations, escalation spawns and escalation loot, bearing in mind some of the reports are secondhand.

Also this is a very fast chain, the cruiser commanders along the way have always been relatively kind to me for loots (compared to frigate commanders), and the overseer encounter is very easy - can be done with a force recon if the system its located in requires you to pass through a player camped gate.

Stopping to kill the core admirals for bounties is optional and just a bit of an amusing thing to fail at.

yeah is kinda funny now, wasn't funny at all when it was happening.

The Wiki article really need to emphasize how serious the damping is with the new Ewar changes.

I think I know which one you're talking about, and I've watched a lot of ships die to it. I don't know if they changed anything since I last ran it, but I remember the chance of getting the complete escelation (ie getting a shot at decent loot) was pretty slim, and after the second or third corp-mate who lost their battleships trying to save me, I stopped running them :P

Frankly, EVElopedia isn't that keen on timely updates, and same can be said about many other sources. Tauranon is right, that takes some research (augmented by your own knowledge and sense, especially if changes are done recently) to figure out what are you going to face.

My wild guess is that many guide writers got tired with years of fixing and updating and the like, so in many cases you won't see any profound write-up on the matter. Probably talking to people would be better choice sometimes, but keep in mind that when some content becomes trivial for someone, it's possible that he may overlook a detail or two that may be pretty significant for someone not familliar with the content at all.

same, never had anything worth it in any escalation, never had more than one escalation, and only 1 of the 20+ DED sites i've done in the last 2 monthes dropped a deadspace item (wich was crappy)

also, the true sanshas never drop ANYTHING but laser crystals now, whether it is on belt or in sigs.

i do smell a stealth nerf.....

also the drop from radar / magneto / combat ladar are really crappy now too ( no more BPC, no more intact armor plate or skillbooks etc....)

Its more like RNG, I took my battle Noctis through High-sec doing anoms as I went and killed a faction frig and got a DG ballistic and a blue salvage worth 30k or something silly.

Now with 100% less Troll.

well, we are several (10+) ppl running sites / sigs etc... in low sec, and we all noticed the same trend reagarding the drops in the last 2 months.

and we run them in a daily basis, the content of my loot container has dropped 50% value those last 2 month, whil i kept running the same average nb of anom.

ofc, it used to vary a bit from month to month, but never by 50% (unless i stop playing for a few indeed), and the drop was still ore or less the same.

plus it is pretty easy to spot that now i have no more deadspace / faction items, BPC or skillbooks, while i used to gather a few / month before

Oh I do agree on the stealth nerf.

To me it seemed that right after the expansion was deployed I was getting great drops in everything I do in Highsec, DED 3,4/10, Radars and Gravs.

Now the places where I was getting A and B type drops am getting C type if lucky, radars are giving out crap and the places that would give C type drops now give tags and crap.

Gravs seem scarcer also.

Maybe it was just a post expansion buff to give everybody that "I love eve!" glow...........

to me it seems more like the nerf came with the expansion, i checked my loot on a monthly basis for a year before, and since this expansion, a net 50% nerf for the same amount of anoms (proportion of anom type seems to remain the same tho).

and i still operate within the same low sec region, so no reason it being changed.

i especially agree, radar and magneto give crap now, and the ladar fight doesn't drop skillbooks anymore, only some gsas cloud harvester

Ive written that down a few times.

Ive always been considered bragging, posing or whatever for sharing that information, until i gave it up, since there are soooooooo many ub0r that know it all better.

It is like that since at least 2 years, if not since the expeditions were introduced.

When the Vigil escalates, you sometimes get a message saying something like that:

" ... the call for help was answered by a nearby fleet, so you better be quick ..." in local chat.

IF that happens, it means that you have a possibility for an escalated escalation, or escalated expedition.

There are multiple ways to solve it:

1.) simply wait like 20 minutes in the first expedition site, after you have killed the NPCs. Remain uncloaked, but goin on a distance like 70 km is a not too bad recommendation. First time i discoveredf this, i was already with my orca and a salvager in the site and the fleet, which warped in, caught me "pants down", 1 rounded my salvager and my orca made it out there on hull.

2.) follow down the expedition until the very last step in LoSec. But be careful! When you do that, the expedition which can be considered in the difficulty of 4/10 then escalated into the difficulty of a 5/10. The fleet which warped in there in LoSec was MUCH harder than the one i had in the HiSec sites. In fact it included more than once something really big, Carrier or Dreadnought.

-----> in 2 cases i have gotten another window message and received a further expedition, that leads to track down the source of where the fleet came. Which then is overall considered as hard as a 5/10. From a friend explorer ive gotten the info, that there is also a chance that this might escalate further into a difficulty of a 6/10 including sometimes a named spawn.

All good explorers know this since years, yet little has been shared. Not on purpose to keep it secret, or maybe just a lil bit. Mostly because all sharing these infos got trolled and yelled at by those who think they invented exploration but dont do much but delivering false facts on false formulas in form of excel sheets.

I know of at least 2 more expeditions that might trigger a further escalation. Atm im trying to find the "holy grail of exploration". A triggered expedition in a difficulty of a 1/10, that leads up to the highest grades of difficulty.

There is few to no information in Evelopedia about that. One of these is well hidden in the frentix distribution site. One of them is hidden in a frig sized signature, i think its XXXX hide, for XXXX = Sansha, Serpentis or whatever. I futher expect one in the monstery sites but didnt get the escalation so far, and those are not spawning in the region im in since about a year.

Damn, I've seen that message a few times but haven't ever stuck around in the site afterwards. Always thought it was just some extra text to add immersion to the story for RP aspect.

Man, I've been shooting myself in the foot and didn't even realize it.

What?
