Should I use a neural remap?

Hi all,

I started playing EVE in 2006, when race selection mattered (not sure if it still does), and I "had" to spend 3 months of training just on learning skills. This character has 15 Charisma and 20+ on everything else, which is perfect for the career I originally planned to have.

Now I hear that using a neural remap forces a minimum of 17 to all attributes. Someone even said they would end up losing 2 attribute points if they used a remap. I'm afraid this will be the case for me, too.

So my question is, assuming I want to keep the same career path, training, and low Charisma, would a neural remap still increase my other stats enough to offset the new minimum of 17 Charisma?

Yes, I would suggest you remap when you can. You get 1 remap every 6 months, IIRC, and this is quite useful. How you remap is all up to the skill plan you intend to train.

Gunnery, Missile Launcher Operation and Spaceship Command all use Perception and Willpower.
Electronics, Engineering, Industry, Mechanic and Science use Intelligence and Memory.

Personally, I am remapped for Per & Will, getting my Missile skills and Spaceship skills out of the way. After they are done, I intend to remap to Int & Mem, to work on my support skills.

You should probably check into using EVEMon, if you haven't already, and see how your skill plan maps out. I am currently training for a Tengu, so remapping has actually cut about 2 months off of my training time.

One per year. Makes a big difference. Plan accordingly.

One after a one year cool down period. Makes a big difference. Plan accordingly. Blink

LONG ANSWER:
Before remapping, certain bloodlines could have starting attributes under 5. For example, Minimatar Brutor had base intelligence 3, while Gallente Intaki started with perception 3. There is also an Amarr bloodline that has base charisma 4. When remaps got introduced, they set all attributes to 5 base, added 12 for maxed learning skills so you end up 17 in all stats. Bloodlines that started with attributes lower than 5 thus ended up getting bonuspoints.

So if your original character has anything below 5 base, you will have your unassigned points in the negative and have a greater total amount. When you hit remap, you will lose the extra points and you can distribute extra points like everyone else.

I personally "lost" 2 points, but getting rid of a perception of 3 had INFINATELY more value than some random extra points in memory :P

SHORT ANSWER:
Yes, it's worth it even if you lose some attribute points.
