Proteus is one of only a few ships that can tank the high end 10/10 complex's... standing still...

Yes, but the Ishtar is stil lbetter in pretty much every way. Hell, even with just a day or three worth of drone skills, he'll outperform that poor blaster Proteus for missions in an Ishtar (and in a drone proteus if he absolutely has to use that ship).

Proteus is quite awful for missions be it blaster or rails fitted.

Best way to use your Prot skills is to build an UBoat (cloack blaster gank fit) and go kill baddies or heavy tackle surrounded by good friends.
If you really intend to mission with that just don't, really, don't even waste time trying.

Low/nul sec exploirations, it shines there, you can fit lots of utillity mods and still have a gank and a tank to run them.

Sentry proteus is better than a sentry Ishtar, people look at Prot bandwidth and come to a quick conclusion but it's not that simple. An ishtar has trouble fitting tank + DDA +omniD and the proteus doesn't. Result is that the proteus can fit 3 DDA while having enough tank for a lvl 4 and have 2 omniD at the same time and still be stable. So it has more damage and more tracking/range while having more tank and being faster.

Don't discard a sentry Proteus purely based on its 100m3 bandwidth (it's also the best explorer or all the T3s btw)

Mission proteus works just fine. I tried both blasters and rails. Blasters took way to long to fly between targets. Rails can start spanking the rats at 80k. Rails turned out to be much faster on average.
