What is the plural of noctis? Noctises? Noctii?

Noctis could be a completely fictional name, that is made up by a developer who knows nothing about latin, much less about its third declination. In that case a general plural would be "noctises".

If who invented them wanted to use latin as radix, then Noctis is not a noun, it's a genitive of the name "nox" (night) and means "of the night".

A plural of the noun "nox" is "noctes".

I don't agree (yeah a surprise) with Tippia suggesting "noctium" because latins would not just transpose a genitive into its plural, they'd use the proper noun made into plural. If we really want to "force-noun-plural" a genitive then we may as well consider it a developer fantasy made name and call them Noctises.

Edit: that's the problem with Wikipedia and dictionaries, they are tools to be used with background information on the topics they cover yet most just copy and paste.

^this for the angle you guys are playing, but it's a proper noun. -es.

There's nothing worse than an EVE player, generally considered to be top of the food chain in the MMO world, that cannot smacktalk with wit and coherency.

you could try fancy false-Latin endings such as Noctii or Noctium.
…except that -ium isn't a false-Lating ending. It's the correct ending if you just make noctis plural. Now -ii, on the other hand, that's pretty much always false.

The only question is if you want the plural to be [of-the-night]s or if you want it to be [somethings] of the night.

How do you pluralise post-partum?

How do you pluralise the right to freedom of political expression?

How do you pluralise Jus Primae Noctis?

You don't. That is a state of being, not a noun.

See above.

That depends which part you have more of — the rights, the different kinds of freedom, or the expressions.

That depends if you want more rights or more nights.

Honestly that makes no sense.

If using the genitive one cannot just haphazardly switch to the proper noun form and use the plural of that and have it make grammatical sense at all. Unless you know this somehow because you were 'there' with the ancients.

I was not there with the ancients but I studied latin and live in Italy so I kind of have an idea about how we think in a given situation (which is often very odd and convoluted thinking but still...).

Latin words do not use Latin pluralizations in English if the word isn't something that would ever have been pluralized in Latin.

E.g. the correct plural of "virus" is "viruses", not "virii" or whatever.

The plural of "Noctis" is therefore "Noctises" in English.

You didn't waste any of that time. You have learnt a valuable lesson.

Also, I can't believe it took this thread for me to realise why the Noctis is named so. I mean the hull it is based on is ORE's Primae.....

Prhaps none of them are pluralised because they describe non-countable concepts?

But the Noctis isn't a noctis. It's a ship named 'Noctis'.
