I remember ccp putting in actual stars from the galaxy once but had to remove them because they where causing so many issues with the map functions.

when did they get rid of them?

I was under the impression that all the stars you see in game are ones you can fly too...
At the end of the game both the pawn and the Queen go in the same box.

It was shortly after they made the instant zoom out maps, while fun it became too much overhead I think having the 'map' constantly loaded at all times.

I want to say it was back when exploration first came out.

My only wish now is for the solar system map to have some sort of off color background and not black, grey on black hurts my eyes, I want holosphere blue or something.

Dust 514's CPM 1 Iron Wolf Saber Eve mail me about Dust 514 issues.

Just re-installed SISI on my PC to check this feature out and... confirmed... it is absolutely awesome! A few comments and observations:

  • The displayed route runs from the next system on your route, to about the 9th or 10th system on your route, after which it becomes too difficult to see.

  • It would be nice if the route started at the centre of the outgate in your own system

  • It immediately makes you want to reach out and right click on one of the points so you can edit your route without going to the map screen.

  • It'd be awesome if you could highlight a solar system, constellation or region in space with a special navigation overlay or something.

In other words... this is an amazing feature because it really opens a lot of doors to new ways to get immersion from the game, people will DEFINITELY be wanting more of this eye candy to make them feel like they're really in a galaxy and not just some random textured skybox.

The slightly brighter stars in the background correspond to other stars in the region, I believe, but the fainter ones are static background objects.

Someone correct me if that isn't true.

Awesome.
But it lacks system names. I think stars on route must be clickable and must show their names under mouse cursor.

To extend and make it really-really awesome, I suggest making 3-dimensional spherical star map. Current 3d starmap is just awful. Observer (i.e. camera) should be in the center of spherical sky - as it is for real sky map (see Celestia).

Also, would be nice to see systems in jump range (for example, for black ops ships).

Awesome feature. Looking forward to it being implemented. I also disagree with doing away with the F10 map entirely but being able to update autopilot routes in space is phenomenal.

It's been technically possible to navigate by the stars since the new nebulae were introduced and they re-aligned the gates to the destination star. I've been trying to learn but even in the areas I frequent I haven't made much progress... UghBig smile

Looks neat. I personally just noticed that systems on your route are highlighted in the market, which is also quite neat, don't know when that was added.

Showing the route in space ... totally pointless ... however it still is Amazing, really adds to the immersion factor.

Having the AP settings outside of map screen ... Fantastic! why did we have to wait so long, at least its another little thing crossed off. Good job
