Eve and Kickstarter...

Why doesn't CCP post on Kickstarter for the development of additional features/expansions that a subset of the Eve community would like.

One example is walking in stations. A Kickstarter campaign would let people donate so CCP could staff-up and bang a few of these features out, without it taking resources form the core focus of eve: internet spaceships.

It would be an interesting experiment that would cost CCP nothing to try. As far as I'm aware Kickstarter has never been used in this way to help fund a game expansion (could be wrong.)

People that are passionate about the feature could pledge on Kickstarter. Those that don't want to spend additional money etc wouldn't have to, it's completely opt-in.

Do you think CCP should give this a try?

I don't think CCP's problems stem from a lack of money.

CCP is an Icelandic company, by law only US or UK companies can use kickstarter.

Do you see the problem?

EDIT: Turns out Kickstarter opened up to UK companies in October 2012 - doesn't change the fact that CCP is Icelandic though.

Even if CCP could use Kickstarter I think it would be a mis-use of what Kickstarter represents. Really all they would be using it for is for prepayment from their customers, or a risk-free investment.. Either way, it's not something I would support.

As one of the above poster's said, CCP's problems aren't from a lack of money.

Your point? You can back projects no matter where you are, but you can't get backing unless you're in the US or UK - CCP is neither.

The problem with EVE is the lead designer/developer. Money isnt a problem but they are currently developing 2 new games along with current upkeep on EVE, the 2 new games being funded by EVE whether we like it or not.

Is the implication here that since we as subscribers give money to CCP for one product we can tell them what they are allowed to spend money on?

It is a business, not a democracy. The entitlement of some MMO fans makes me laugh and cry at the same time.

When did they close their office in Atlanta?

Also, laws are made by governments, terms of service are made by companies. If you want to spout off about something, at least get your facts straight.

It takes what, a couple hundred dollars to start a US corporation? I'm sure this is not out of CCP's reach. In fact, they already have an Altanta office that they can base it from. Assuming what you say is true - I am too lazy to verify it.

CCP had an office in Georgia (the state, not the ex soviet bloc), don't know if they still do but loophole perhaps? Big smile

No, but they have created a council of players to be a sounding board and give feedback to try and keep them from doing astoundingly dumb things like Incarna.

EDIT: And also the many highly intelligent and well-thought out suggestions by skilled and competent/experienced individuals for what can be done to revitalize/revamp 0.0 which continues to be thoroughly ignored in favor of 'other things' the shelved POS work also comes to mind.

While I agree the captains quarters isn't useful atm, the concept of being able to leave your ship and visit a bar/ market / do the salvaging they've been looking at etc, holds promise at least to me, and I believe others too.
