DED 1/10 and 2/10: rare or just bad luck?

Disclaimer: Yes the sample size is insignificant, random is still random, and I am bad at statistics.

tl;dr - DED 1/10 and 2/10 are super rare finds for me

On Tue 4 December 2012, Retribution came out, and with that, static DED 1/10 and 2/10 were moved to the exploration system proper. Lowsec PVPers protested, explorers complained they couldn't find them, the prices of related faction loot soared, and farmes silently wept.

Having not found any of the DED 1/10 or 2/10 myself, and hearing many people on the forum and in-game exploration channels saying the same thing, I decided to hop on to the test server and have a look, without having to compete with other players running the sites. I then proceeded to scan down every highsec solarsystem in Devoid (33) and Derelik (64). I gave up before I could finish the other two Sansha regions (Tash-Murkon having 89, Domain having 151).

Raw data:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AgyYH4Hyu_cZdEFWYU04a2ktcUR5cGVUbkFGWWlILVE

Summary:
97 solarsystems
207 cosmic signatures

Breakdown by Group:
49 gravimetric (24%)
24 magnetometric (12%)
19 radar (9%)
47 unknown (47%)

Breakdown of the Unknown sigs:
44 wormholes (21%)
25 drone sites (12%)
20 unrated pirate sites (10%)
8 rated pirate sites (4%)

Breakdown of the rated sites:
1 DED 1/10 (0.48%)
0 DED 2/10
2 DED 3/10 (0.97%)
5 DED 4/10 (2.42%)

Personally I was hoping that the moving of the static sites to the exploration system would help new players run them as opposed to older players in fancy ships farming them. But (personally) I have found them to be some of the rarest sites in game!

So, frequency of DED 1/10 and 2/10: Working as Intendedâ„¢ or something gone amiss?

Well I havent kept any data of mine, but Ive have run into 1x 1/10 DED, 3x 2/10 DED, 0x 3/10 and 4x 4/10 on the past week (only thing I keep track of is the DED sites and the loot they contained.)

Ive encountered hell of alot of empty mag sites tho... like only third of the sites I run have any loot in the containers O_o.

OP, my numbers are quite similar. Not counting tow or three drone 3/10s.
Around 150 scanned systems.

No comment on spawnrates or mechanics, but if 1/10s and 2/10s were plentiful, it would be a boon to newer explorers, who would (finally) get some worthwhile sites where they wouldn't be competing with tengus tengus tengus tengus

Gonna bump this post a little as I have the same problem. Have not foud a single 1/10 since the patch. Been a bit sad. Spawnrates need tweaking in my opinion.

CCP is pressing faction loot up so players have to buy plex to get them. Thats why they have retaredly nerfed every faction/officerspawns in the game.

Its all about the money.

That pretty much sums it up. Blue, Green and Purple loot is the "good stuff" in other games so it's easy to fool the new dudes into buying it thinking they are drastically better. The skill requirements also make it the only option for them to get the "good stuff" before the tech II systems are done training.

Good on CCP for sucking every dollar out of the pockets of WoWtards.

Even if your theory were true, then the sellers of the loot get the ISK and won't need to buy a PLEX. So the amount of PLEX bought stays the same.

I would have to agree with the OP here.

I used to bring noobs that I was training down to lowsec to both get a first taste in PVP and also have a chance to make some amazing isk for characters of their age.

Well with the PVP option kind of gone I decided that I might still be a good guy and find them a 1/10 or 2/10 in high sec to at least get the isk benefit.

I can't say I was nearly as diligent as some of the previous posters in probing down systems, after about 20 systems (both Molden Heath and Heimatar highsec) having found nothing I gave up. Though this infrequency certainly explains the ludicrous prices of the mods that drop from these complexes.

My personal thoughts are that their frequency in high sec should be upped and that the statics in low sec should be returned (proper arguments to why that is the case can be found here: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=177254&p=22 ).

Bullshit...they couldn't sell clothes for useless avatars to the new or old. The metric was used to attempt the same macrotransaction model on small mods.

What are DUST players? Perspective eve customers used to microtransactions
What mod size is used on ships you can train for in a small amount of time? small
Where are these ships most common? Faction Warfare
How do you do an orbital bombardment? Faction warfare and a destroyer

That might be true, but that doesn't change the fact that the amount of PLEX/payments needed still is the exact same, no matter the cost and ease of finding these modules.

Well, I'm not gonna give lessons on deferred income here but at least you understand the marketing end.

So when they move Datacores over to FW(confirmed/uncomfirmed?), what happends to T2 production ? do you see the chain ? what do casual players have to do when isk prices rises ? they have to buy plex to get the stuff they need. This on a monthly subscription..

CCP are doing alot of these little things. And dont tell me that this isn about "show me the money". Sure the front is good: "we listen to what the players want". The clothes is a good example of getting more dollaz. That they did atleast without a front. Theyve learned their lesson :)

Unconfirmed.

Gunlab wrote:

Umm. Nothing, actually. FW is already setting datacore prices, and they're lower now than they were under just research agents.

Where is the isk coming from? PLEX isn't traded in a vacuum, and CCP isn't buying it off the market.

I'm a casual player. I just happen to know how to keep up an income stream in game. Plexing two accounts a month isn't that hard if you don't mind doing activities that can make some money.

At any rate, none of this has to do with spawn rates for 1 and 2/10s.

Boy oh boy. Those spawn rates for 1/10 and 2/10 DED plexes are very low. Here I was making the assumption that they would have one of the best spawn rates once the statics were removed from game. That is disappointing.

Was also hoping that they would spawn in low sec exploration. Cant say that I have found a one myself in lowsec. Though I havnt scanned 15 systems or more like a lot of guys.

Ah well. They were fun while they lasted. Hope they get put back in with some anti-farming fixes.

When it comes to PvP, I am like a chiwawa hanging from a grizzley bears pair of wrinklies for dear life.
