Nah man, fish will eat anything. They don't care if it's natural to their environment or not. Pond carp will eat corn chips. An old guy I knew in Texas would catch catfish in dough bait made from corn flakes and strawberry soda. You can drag a rubber thing shaped like Cthulu with a steel hook in it through the water and they'll try to eat it. A U.S. Coast Guard captain told me about a cattle ship that overturned in a typhoon near Saipan. By the time the Coast Guard ship got there there was a shark frenzy going on, over a mile wide....Shocked Those sharks didn't care whether or not they'd ever seen a cow before or not. Poor cows, not a good way to go. Well, I guess there's really no good way to go for a beef cow.

Maybe lard is lighter than water, and that big glob of fat floated. There might not be that many top feeders in the North Sea in January.

Corn chips and corn flakes are carbohydrates that yes fish will eat. They do not know what to do with fats.

If you don't believe me, you have no other option but to go ask the fish themselves.

And yes....sharks will eat anything......and not digest most of it.

edit: if fish were able to consume oils and fats whole like this, they would eat oil slicks. No difference. They do not.

They are. I'm refering more to the ultra primitive large ones like the Great White. They will eat a tire. (and famously license plates as seen in "Jaws").

So yes they will blindly scoop up that entire huge lard wad indiscriminately. Also, they won't be found around the coast of Scotland nosing around old war ships.

But an ordinary smalller shark will ignore a lard ball like any other fish.

They eat chips too. They are just a little different.
