I mentioned this in a lost post in Two-step's threadnaut but I take it like this:

At what point is there a difference immersionwise between a POS and a Outpost and a station other than size?

I think the future needs to look at it like that.

Oh yeah, and they need to be able to be destroyed and looted. Even outposts.

Maybe modular poses could be a different sort of pos, and they could eventually be built to "station egg" status, and be able to have the additional resources added to make them "outposts." As for blowing them up,yay, I get to necro this:

Pretty much this. The distinction between POS and outpost is confusing anyway. A station should be able to be custom designed to someones needs and be expanded upon like the ISS.

Ed: I do admit that I'm kinda bummed about MODPOS lacking a forcefield. I like stealing people's ships if they leave them out and I can guess the password.

Hopefully if CCP ever makes outposts capable of being extremely upgradeable they also allow visible modular components you can stack on the outside since that would in fact look badass.

Everything in Moderation. A superpos, like a real military base would be handy. The thing about outposts is, you can't see outside. A fuckoff huge structure like that and not one window to see if theres a fleet of 1000's for that matter or a lone bomber. Pos are used as staging areas because they're visible, and defended, unlike outposts that don't have a peashooter to defend with even small pos have guns, unless those people didn't want that tower anyways. Having a bigass SuperPOS, well defended and well stocked. Company store, rip your own allies off, but its convenient. Have a mcdonalds, KFC and a friggin walmart too.

Limit them to 1 per constellation, let them be fueled to last for months, with the understanding that what you put in you *can't* get it out again. 2 stages of timed reinforcement. maybe up to 4 small pos set up to deploy varieties small medium and large pos guns, the military bas poss being able to set up superlarge anti Capship guns to help combat dread fleets.

They'd be supremely costly to fuel and maintain, the small pos "guard" towers would be a new breed of tower. no industry at any of them, they're strictly for wartime use. Not for manufacturing, the super pos is there for consolidation of power. possibly even have repping turrets for allies.

Why only one per constellation? Defenders need their military base as well. Can't do one per region thats way too much space for a single non permanent base. could also be worked into a new form of sov. as a change from regular pos, you can use them at gates, no closer than 200km, inclding smal guard towers.

Menace should be seen as well as felt in invasion/defensive actions.

Alright I had a thought, every mod you have increases the size of the pos right? Well if every new addition is made from 1 central cpu and powergrid generator then that area would have a limited number of guns you could add to that. When you add another part it would be some distance away and the range of the medium guns that section has would not properly overlap meaning your still only fighting some of the 700 guns. In which case it would be possible for a 1000km long pos to have blind spots where it has no guns on it. Each section added could be the size of a outpost and if you wanted to have two outpost nodes sitting next to each other to have more guns in one spot then that would waste say 25% of the possible mods you could attach to that stack.

So it could be possible to have a 700 gun death ball with all weapons having overlapping range, but the titan cookers and refineries may be out of range of that. Where if you spread out your guns your still just fighting the normal number of pos guns.
If someone could give me some gun ranges that would be sweet since I am unsure of how it works.

As for a pos that does everything industry wise that wouldn't be to big a problem, each section and module of the pod should be attackable independent of the main tower. A small 20 man BC gang should have the ability to destroy or incapacitate a subcapital assmebly array in a few minutes without shooting the tower. You would have a reinforced core for important mods like CSAAs for each section that would require reinforcing the pos just like now and the ability to tack on lots and lots of little things.

Also these things wouldn't have bubble shields on them they would be more like outposts.

Also these structures could be capturable or certain sizes of them require a highly upgraded system meaning if you loose the space the tower goes offline increasing incentive to spread out your industry more and have other poses still scattered around.
