What you could do, although this straddles the line of "solo", is hire your Orca (and more importantly, it's boosts) out to miners in exchange for a cut of the profits - assuming you can establish a measure of trust, of course. Just find some area where there's a dozen of miners working and offer "mining foreman and cargo" service for a "small fee." Who knows? It just may work. I've joined fleets like that before. It's actually kind of fun watching fifty mining ships erase an entire asteroid belt in under ten minutes.

I know the Orca isn't intended to be used as a solo ship; but would doing so be crazy if it is done in high sec?

IMO not worth it if going solo in terms of quantity mined per hour. Grab yourself a mack, or if you cant afford it a retriever and use that to mine with.
