I'm curious if there's a calendar for dates relevant to the upcoming CSM elections. For example, the deadline for finalizing candidacies, the voting period, the announcement of the results, and the installment of the newly-elected CSM members. If there are no specific dates nailed down yet, are there any estimates? Smile

Based on last year's schedule (http://community.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&nbid=3386) and the likelihood that CCP would like to announce the results during the Fanfest keynote, I suspect this year's schedule is going to go something like this:

late Feb: CCP publishes devblog announcing CSM8 election, voting procedure, schedule
04 Mar: players can officially submit candidacies
18 Mar: first published list of candidates, collect "likes" (if that's still the procedure)
01 Apr: final list of candidates
08 Apr: voting, probably through 19 Apr
25 Apr: results announced during Fanfest keynote
26 Apr: CSM8 takes office

aka Jester, who apparently was once Deemed Worthy To Wield The Banhammer to good effect.

Correct. While these dates are simply guesses, I highly suspect everything will be pushed off a month to coincide with FF. We also have a LOT of work to do in the coming couple of months to plan for summer expansion, there should almost certainly be more details about this next week.

And a warning to voters: any candidates going whole-hog into firing up the election circus without even wanting to wait to hear these details or see the CSM winter summit minutes is already demonstrating that they are impatient and unwilling to get a lay of the land before seeing how they can support future efforts between the CSM and CCP. A smart candidate may declare his intention to run, but will wisely see exactly where things stand before further developing their campaign message. For all they know, CCP could be majorly dropping the ball Incarna-style all over again, how each candidate handles the minutes release and dev blog release with respect to their candidacy will be extremely telling about their attitude towards this job.

A CSM term is always a marathon run, not a sprint. Look for the candidates that are carbo-loading and checking their shoelaces for the next month at least, not the ones already running off down the track blindly. Blink

Gives the current CSM members quite an advantage, methinks.

I just thought I would post this here

Quote:

The Scope of the CSM

The purpose of the CSM is to represent society interests to CCP. This requires active engagement with the player community to master EVE issue awareness, understanding, and evaluation in the context of the “greatest good for the greater player base”.

http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/What_is_the_CSM

For clarity as to the purpose of the CSM.

Any spelling, grammatical and punctuation errors are because frankly, I don't care!!

You're exactly right - efforts like the summer expansion development that is about to start up, for example. Not only is it a great opportunity for us to represent players as stakeholders during a meaningful, high-level decision making process (which is why we've raced to get the minutes out, the whole exercise is a wasted opportunity if it's just a bunch of CSM talking heads in a room with CCP without genuine player support)

Depending on what CSM7 encourages CCP to work on this summer, CSM8 hopefuls will have the chance to support us in those efforts or call for something different, if they disagree. Either case is a great opportunity for CSM candidates to show their dedication to the future of the game, the community, and the CSM.

While I would love to find fault in your reasoning (Lets face it, it is me typing) but I cannot.

All I can say is that given CCPs attitude of late in relation to these forums is that players are not a stake holder but the entire reason for this games existence. CCP seems from a players perspective to once again be forgetting this. One of the reasons I am looking forward to the minutes is in relation to the section CSM7 Dec Summit Topic - Community site and what was said in this short section.

But what do I know I am only a paying customer.

Again thank you for your hard work.

It's not very easy for CCP to determine what the playerbase as a whole wants, especially since the playerbase can generally be relied upon to want two conflicting things in almost every case.

Besides, I'd contest that players are the entire reason for this game's existence.

Good to see a contrary position on EvE-O and that you have completely disregarded capitalism, comrade.

...which is why you hold all the power. Everyone votes with their pocketbook, that is the great double-edged sword of bittervet syndrome. By hanging in there while miserably, you still send off the message that you are not, in fact, miserable, and willing to pay for such "misery". But to say we are the reason for this games existence is an exercise in stating the obvious - We all stop playing tomorrow cause we're not having fun? CCP implodes. And one of these days, if not already, that will apply to the Dust 514 community as well.

Stakeholder, on the other hand, is not merely a token fraction of this level of power or some derogatory remark. Stakeholder refers to practical role within the company and a specific practical role within the scrum process.

Well the good ones will always have an advantage over an unproven candidate.

Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Not quite. We do not hold actual power. We have a voice, but the real power, is in whether or not ccp thinks that at the end of the day, their action will cause the customer base to increase or decrease.

Projections are more valuable than opinions. It doesn't take much of an effort to see the ever building frustrations in the CSM minutes, of the CSM candidates, with not only not being involved in the decision making process, being used for feedback, but then at the end of the day, being told something like the pos revamp is going to happen, then later on being told, "no, we shelved that"
