Decreasing Memory Use

Now, all told I have 16 gigs so this is not really an issue, but I am curious about something. I run 5 clients right now simultaneously, and the RAM use goes like this:

428.4 MB
456.1 MB
459.1 MB
471.2 MB
483.7 MB

All in the same system, doing damn near the exact same thing in damn near the same spot. Why the difference of 60 MB between the highest and lowest? Also, having turned off absolutely everything I could have, is there any way to push this down into the ground even more? We used to have resource cache intervals, but now we just have the flat option to enable resource cache - anything that can be done there?
