Good blog, Unifex. Now I'm more eager than ever to see the minutes.

In a weird way I believe that 2013 marks the end of the longest live beta in the gaming industry's history. And now we're ready to go live.

It was a great CSM summit so I hope you like the minutes. As for 2013, we are certain in a different place as we enter Eve Online second decade. Bring it on!

Be nice to Malcanis - I think you'll be meeting him in person at the CSM 8 summit shortly after FanFest... Big smile

Looks good to me. Glad that you've come up with a good approach to moving forward and keep this game (lifestyle?) alive and improving.

Let us now proceed with the hashing out of the details.

"no major drama" in 2012?

Unifubar Inventory anyone? (that still isn't quite right b/c it lacks the promised "persistence" still) Then the "weekly fixes till its as good as it was before" that persisted for a whole of two weeks then seemingly the entire staff went on vacation for 2 months...

Fix what you've broken this year, make it all actually work as good as the previous system (ie, atleast maintaining the same level of functionality, it currently still has LESS), then you can look at making new things, so long as you finally decide to not push broken things onto TQ b/c thats what your time table demands. ("we honestly thought we were ready" line is complete BS)

Looks like you didn't really learn anything if you think there were no dramas this past year, so sad to see such a legacy of a great game being slowly killed by pride and arrogance of those working on it.

He said major dramas, like, say, a botched expansion that didn't expand anything and led to full scale rioting and massed unsubs, with a side order of leaked internal newsletters. Compared to the post-Incarna environment, complaining about the UI is nothing.

I'm anxious to see how you're going to do parallel delivery on material that seems to require heavy recoding from the ground up (i.e. POS+Ring Mining)

Taking what you did with the Inferno point releases and prepping the code foundations up to 6 months before release seems like a more plausible in scheduling, but also means CCP needs to know what they're doing *gasp* 12 months ahead of time?

So, that means that Modular POS coding is already happening, to start on assets delivery in the winter sprints as we speak. But , according to CCP Seagull, apparently the expansion pre-production stage is starting up soon. Shouldn't that be for the Winter delivery pre-production planning?

Whatever is happening for the current expansion should already be 6 months in development (much like the foundation for Crimewatch was delivered in Summer while the actual changed landed in Winter).

Guess we'll see in Fanfest :) I'll buy you a beer if you impress. Pirate

so Dev Team, this brings up a very curious question and that is whats next? I know dust514 still has integration and changes upcoming but When will we see more to the Incarna System?

The Incarna question has been asked an answered by CCP Unifex recently.

While I wouldn't mind seeing tweaks and releases of assets more or less together at this point, I agree with him that any major pushes forward in this area is not a good use of the team's resources right now.

Let the World of Darkness team in Atlanta chew on Carbon avatar based gameplay with enhanced animations, interfaces, multi-avatar performance and such. When significant work is done there then CCP can look at adapting that to some new functionality, hopefully with meaningful impact on EVE.

If CCP has a way to get this to us sooner in a way that would work (like say adapting Unreal 4 or some such, leveraging the work done for DUST) then great. But I think it's a loser to be pushing for signifcant dev resources for incarna at this time.

Sorry to say it, because I'd love to see EVE become that perfect simulation of all aspects of future life in New Eden as much as anyone.

I would also like to see some kind of improvement to NPC null sec space. Such as the ore you can find in belts or a way to upgrade systems so you can find better ore/ anomolies like sov space. It just seems that NPC null sec space is getting left behind when compared to what Sov and Faction Warfare are getting.

And before you anyone says it I have tried sov space and I don't like it.

Too actualy finish off Incarna would be a nice addition to Eve, but I know this wont happen for a very long time if ever.

It is going to be truly interesting to watch this new process play out, and the summit was a good start (as people wil see when the minutes come out). But the next big test will be in the coming weeks as CCP develops its first expansion release plan using this new philosophy.

I think I can safely speak for my colleagues on the CSM when I say that we are all looking forward to being involved in this process, and keeping the community informed about its progress.

This may be a little too little a little too late. The new AI is fun, but the drones cannot handle it. I enjoy the new level of interaction, but dispair fills me when the drones are whiped from the game with two shots. It may be fair to the npc's in the game and the fight, but recalling drones is often as pointless as launching them. My game play since the new AI has gone from regular to almost nothing. So I ask, is there a drone armor kit coming soon?

To be honest, the drone nerf really dampened my desire to play Eve, but reading the Dev Blog has made me realize that I should stop whinging, HTFU and enjoy Eve for the wonderful gaming experience it is.

Here's to another 10 fanastic years for Eve and the great players who make Eve what it is.

Not exactly. Nothing should be assumed about what is or isn't in the pipeline at the moment. This is the -beginning- of a whole new process, a clean slate, this isn't the process that's been happening the last 6 months inside CCP. We'll be working with CCP to come up with the theme and feature set for summer, and by the time summer content is delivered, I'd imagine there will have been time to make much longer-term plans. However, the feature set for 2013 is very much -not- in stone at the moment.

This certainly looks like the right direction to me and I wish CCP Ripley & CCP Seagull every success in their new roles.

If Retribution could be considered as the prototype for the theme approach then the future looks very bright indeed.Big smile

Ummmmmm well there was Retribution, and all. Cool

Seriously though, there has been a fair amount of pre-production and prototyping and experimentation with a lot of potential features that has taken place, some of which will no doubt be part of Summer expansion, but which of these features will be selected to flesh out and build the expansion around has yet to be determined. We saw lots of -options- at the summit, some of which will be outlined in the minutes, some of which will be NDA'd until CCP decides to go forward with them.
