Ok see I've been wanting to write a book based in the EVE universe for quite awhile. Im just wondering on how to go about it. See I want it to be a legal book where I have the rights to say that this book is about eve and based in and on it. Also that way i can take it to a publisher and not worry about breaking some kind of law(s). Any help/advice on this would be awesome. I also would like a honest opinion from you guys if you think this is a good idea? I already have a great storyline along with some well-developed characters. All replys welcome.

if you want to use eve trademark you will probably have to pay something to ccp,i dont know if its your first book or something but if it is better write some generic scifi first to see if you have the talentsBlink

I'd suggest contacting CCP and not GD for that.

Also: inform yourself on the usual Intellectual Property conditions in such cases to have benchmarks on what CCP could ask you in terms of $$$ (if they bother). Otherwise they may screw you over (after all they made an MMO which promotes piracy, scamming, etc.)

Write it, never let others get in way of your own personal creativity!

When your done, send copies to several publishers that have published si fi material before. If you get a yes, let the publishers handle CCP and the legal issues. Most likly you will get a maybe from some office that no one knows about, and spend a good year rewriting your book. Its a long term process.

Based on this very question I'd say "don't bother".

Get a lawyer.

Negotiate a contract if they are willing to speak to you.

It better be a good idea for a book or you better be a well known writer. Otherwise a company will not risk a negative result from the use of their IP.

Before launching yourself into a book, which takes a lot of planning and work to accomplish properly, I would suggest you submit a few short stories/excerpts to Eve Fiction perhaps, or even blog them on the internet and see what kind of response you get. It would certainly be better received and would give you more appropriate feedback than GD.

Best of luck though.

I'd suggest you check out the EVE fiction section of the forum and perhaps try your hand at writing something similar to chronicles first. This seems like something where you kind of have to prove yourself first before anyone would give you permission to represent them.

Do a few chronicles and see how that works out first. Also see about going to fanfest and meet CCP.

Pretty much. Get involved in writing Eve fiction on a more modest scale, pay attention to feedback, and work up from there, no point throwing a novel down on the page before you know whether you're a decent writer or not.

Every time you post a WiS thread, Hilmar strangles a kitten.

I'd personally try to use more than one way. Maybe get in touch with a CCP staff writer via Twitter etc.

Looking forward to your updates, OP!
