Well as the title says, I just started playing EVE online.

I have been playing for a very little time, so remaking isn't a problem for me, I made my first character a Caldari, just because I had no idea which to choose. But, now after reading a little through the forums, I have just noticed that every race has a different role here in eve.

Can someone please explain which would be a good race for a newbie? Right now I am not sure of what path to take (PVP, Mining, PVE, etc) So I would like to know if any of the races have good ships for every path or almost all of them. If there isn't a race like that, I would like to know in what path each race specializes in.

I know you may see this posts a lot, but I would like to get started as best as I can.

Sorry, if some of the questions are very easy, but I am still learning.

Anyone of any race can train anything. The only difference between characters of one race of the other is the couple of levels of racial frigate that you start with and the couple levels of that race's prefered weapon system. (and the NPC corp you'll be part of). That's a couple hours training at most.

The racial ships have different favoured weapons and tanking methods, but there's nothing at all stopping you as a Caldari from training Minmatar ships, projectile weapons and shield tanking as an example.

It doesn't matter what race you choose in the beginning other than what frigate skill you start out with. You can train any skill in the game. So if you start as Caldari, there is nothing stopping you from training Amarr, Gallente, or Minmatar skills. Caldari are pretty hot right now for PvP. The Merlin frigate is a beast, and the Moa cruiser does big damage and has a large tank. The Drake battlecruiser is arguably one of the best ships for lvl 3 missions, and can run some lvl 4's. It really is all up to you. Find a ship you like, research it, learn as much as you can. Train the Recommended certificates for it, then train the actual skills needed for the ship, and then improve the skills as you use it. Its a sandbox man, go play.

Every race can train everything. Generally;

Caldari; Missiles/Hybrids, and shields.
Gallante; Hybrids/Drones, and armour.
Amarr; Lasers/Missiles/Drones, and Armour.
Minmatar; Projectile/missiles, and Shields/armour.

Think everyone missed this question..

Short Answer: They're all balanced, but my personal choice.. PvP: Minmatar, PvE Caldari, Mining: Any

Long Answer:
PvP - The majority of fleets are run with armor tanked ships, (Amarr/Gallente and some Minmatar) but Caldari shield tanked ships are still very valuable in pvp, where they usually shine is in small gang's.. For instance, a Falcon can absolutely devastate an enemy fleet preventing them from locking onto your fleet. Minmatar seem to shine in almost all areas because of their high DPS, decent range, fastest speeds in the game, does well with capacitor, good tank, lots of variety.

PvE - Missions level 1-4 Caldari win hands down. Their ability to easily switch damage types, and ease of use for newer players makes them the top choice.

PvE (End Game) you want to be working towards a Machariel, Vindicator, or Nightmare.

Mining/Hauling - All races equal

Probing - All races equal

Salvaging - All races equal

etc etc etc..

First, let me guess....World of Warcraft was your previous MMO?

Cause you seem to think there are classes and cause you are Caldari you can only do "x" while Minmatar does "y".

EVE isn't like that, any skill, any ship, any module can be used by anybody.

So a Caldari character can fly Minmatar ships if he skills in them.

As for what is good for a new player, that depends on what you like to do. Only way to find that out, try things.

I was going to ask if they forgot to update their game and / or mindset from years ago when minmatar ships were considered (even if it wasn't strictly true) to be better for pvp.

I agree with this totally.

EVE is about flexibility in play style and customization. What people think as standard today can and will change tomorrow.

There may be a new user who ignores what everyone says is the best and discovers a new best. That best will then become the de facto best until someone else experiments (ignoring everyone who says that the new best is the only way to play) and establishes another new best.

OP, there is no real specialization for each race. Everyone can learn everything and within the racial designated components and ships there are a -lot- of variations and options. At this point in the game each race has viable options in all things so don't get caught up with what everyone says is 'the best' and try it out for yourself.

You may discover that your skillset is most suitable for a ship that no one seems to fly. Instead of not flying that ship, fly it. One day others may take note and start flying it as well.

the times when each class in WoW could only do one thing are long gone.

as for the original topic: all races have good ships for almost all occupations. by definition, there is only one best ship for every task but almost always, the other races' ships are not far behind.

I should buy an Ishtar.
