Salvage Vs Mining for a second account

Hi,

I have recent got back into the game after being gone a while and i had a question regarding my second account.

My current plan is running lv4 missions on my main with caldari which i am workin towards standing on now.

My problem however, is what to do with my alt.

At the moment i can either do one of the following using my other comp on the alt.

a. Mine which i can do without alot of effort/focus which given my 5-6 hour a day playtime nets me roughly 60-70 million isk a day.

or

b. I can use my alt (which can fly a noctis very well) to salvage the lv4 missions.

(please note either one of these 2 options would be done WHILE i mission run on the other comp aka at the same time)

I was hoping to get some opinions on which would be more productive (estimated ofcourse) for my alt to do as the salvage market seems in the toilet aka no more 1m+ for alloyed trit bars which was the going price before i took a break and loot wise.... i just dont know on average.

Please keep in mind that im not interested in exploration and im waiting to do incursions till the incursion drama i heard about dies down so i will not count them as isk makers just yet and i should mention too all of this i will be done in high sec.

I would say more than anything im just wondering if by salvage/looting i can surpass that 60-70 million isk i can make mining assuming decent mission running speed.

I wont be able to check this post till i get home from work saturday night but thanks in advance for any advice you can all give me on those options.

Fly safe.... or dangerous if thats what you like :) hehe

Agreed with the previous poster, but let me explain a bit.

1. mining afk is bad and you would deserve to be ganked. It would not be a question of IF but WHEN. Leading to total loss of ship (possibly even pod) etc.

2. with salvage / loot missions like worlds collide, AE, Damsel, etc. will net you 20+ mil per mission alone. Run a couple a night and you already exceed the ISK of mining.

Whichever way you decide, good luck!

Hmmm, I can't believe I'm actually going to promote mining.

Anyway, from what I've heard, Mining seems to be an occupation that doesn't require a lot of attention yet is time consuming.

I know you said no exploration but Gravimetric sites are very plentiful and seem relatively safe when compared to regular Asteroid Belts. Maybe have your Industrial character first do some probing and bookmark various Grav sites in a few different systems near your Mission character. That should cover it for a few days at least before having to scan systems again. Also while probing, you can quickly complete all Radar sigs scanned while bookmarking the Grav sites. Decryptors, along with the other loot, can quickly bring in a sizable amount of isk.

However, I do know that running missions requires a lot of attention. I've also noticed that doing clean up with Noctis afterwards also requires attention but only for a small amount of time. After doing the clean up, the Noctis Pilot will basically just be sitting in station waiting for the mission character to finish.

Since it doesn't take much time to do clean up with the Noctis, the Mission character could easily do that after each mission is completed. Due to the introduction of Salvage Drones, lately I've just been using them instead of getting the Noctis to salvage and while the drones are busy, I just check cans for high meta level modules.

So basically,

Every couple days have Industrial character scan different systems nearby and bookmark various Grav sites for mining and complete all Radar sites asap when scanning. Meanwhile, have Combat character run missions and do clean up with Noctis after mission pocket completion.

The mining that doesn't take a lot of attention is ice mining, which also pays the least. If you don't mind switching back to your miner every couple of minutes to switch rocks, it'd probably work for you.
You could always get your alt in a marauder so it can help you do the missions faster, and also salvage on the spot.

With the increase in shiptoasting, the Report timer needs to be shortened.

Salvage. Especially if you get some groovy missions with loot and good salvage.

Fit you Noctopus like so;

6 tractors
2 salvager
5 salvage drones

Pull everything in loot, launch drones, command salvage and let them work whilst you go get started another mission then rinse and repeat for the wiener.

Consider training scanning skills.

The number of people who lose drones on a regular basis can make for quite the bit of alternate profit.

The (player based) scanning skills you acquire can be used not only in PVE but should you get yourself involved in PVP at a future point in time.

thanks to all for the advice.

From what i gather from the posts the loot/salvage would be the best bet so i will give it a shot.

again my thanks to all the posters who took the time to help me with this :)

oh as far as the exploration goes btw : the only reason i didnt want to include it is because ive noticed alot of competition and havnt been brave enough to low sec explore yet BUT i do have a toon with all scan skills lv4 etc
