How much capital do I need to start manufacturing?

As the topic of the thread states. I have a character that I am currently training to manufacture Tech I products and hopefully start moving on to Tech II items. I'm currently learning the ins and outs of manufacturing. I was wondering how much I would need to start manufacturing properly? I currently have 1.75bil isk saved and I am able to fly a obilisk but have not bought one not knowing how much I will need to invest. Thank you.

Safe flying.

You can start with under 1 million ISK. It depends on what you are building, and how much you are building.

I recommend starting with ammo (including scripts), rigs, and drones. Also modules that everybody uses [If you don't what they are, you really should sit and think about it.]

Don't go near ships. It is a trap! [Very competitive for very little ISK earned, and requires a large investment.]

Do the market research before you try anything. If you can't be bothered, you are destined to fail.

Depends. How much profit do you want to make? You can *start* investing with a mil, but your profits will be tiny. If you start with more, your profits will be higher.

T1 manufacturing kinda require researched blueprints so if you don't have a POS don't forget about the cost of buying the blueprint...

Your long term plan as a manufacturer should be to get POS and you have the money to invest in it already.

You don't need a pos, plenty of other options.

You don't "need" it but it's so much easier with a POS... if you are gonna do industry seriously it's definitely great.

This may sound weird, but I think a player with a small amount of capital to invest (50 mil or less, not the 1.75 bil the OP mentioned) will actually do better starting with T2 industry and then moving to T1 later. This because there are so many lucrative items you can build for the T2 market that start with really cheap BPOs, and the return on investment ratio is much higher, which allows you to grow capital faster. The downside of course is that you need more skills. Some of those are science skills whose books cost 10 million each, which is the only reason I propose a starting figure as high as 50 million; you don't need nearly that much for blueprints.

Eventually, you will get sick of the massive clickfest that is invention and want to move to much less click intensive T1 production. Hopefully by that time you will have enough capital to be able to buy some decent T1 blueprints. It really is hard to consistently make much ISK in T1 production without buying pricey BPOs (think 100 mil plus each). As a general rule, the cheaper the BPO, the more competition there will be making the associated T1 item, as blueprint cost is the primary barrier to setting up T1 manufacturing jobs. And the more competition, the thinner the profit margins.

Depends on how lazy or how high profits you are aiming for. The more capital you have, the longer duration the jobs can be or the higher value of the items. If it costs a **** ton to set up then often enough, there is less competition in that field and easier to move the items.

The bare minimum to make an effective go at industry however would be more closer to 1b. You can make it with just 50-100m but then it's far easier to make the isk somewhere else instead before moving over to industry.

As for the POS... don't bother yet. Pick up the researched bpos from either contracts or one of the forums here and spend a few minutes in low sec to find a few empty ME slots for your own bpos. As long as you don't afk travel in a shuttle, you are safe in low sec.
