Fun idea that I would like to see

So, with Dust 514 being released for the Playstation 3, I've been thinking, dangerous I know. How ****ing sweet would bit be to have planetary ground combat integrated into the game? Think about it, you move a fleet into a system, smack up the POS, send ground forces to the planet to ransack the colonies / factories / resource harvestors of another corporation. The planetary ground game would be a FPS where you could control your character as a ground troop if needed while dodging planetary bombardment from the big ships orbiting the planet. There could be ground artillery returning fire into orbit etc.

Idea 2. Or, make planetary conflicts like an RTS style of game play that costs resources to build troops, upgrade troops, etc. in order to defend settlements/colonies/factories/harvestors on planets.

Note: I fully realize what kind of undertaking this kind of project would be. Still it would bring another element to an already fun game.

I go well with Quafe...

Isn't this exactly the plan with DUST ?

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

I don't know. I thought Dust was ONLY going to be for the Playstation 3 and not actually integrated into Eve Online but solely based on the Eve universe/canon. If I missed reading something that said they were going to put Dust into Eve Online and allow PC players to play Dust inside of Eve Online, please point me in the right direction.

As far as I know both games will be on different platforms, but will constantly interact. Dustbunnies can pillage our PI installations, and we can transport them to their combat sites, bombard them and hire them as mercenaries.

Ah, so they ARE implementing the idea but in order to play the ground game, you need to have a PS3 and Dust514. roger that. Would be cool if this could get integrated into the PC game but this is close enough I guess. *Honey, I need to go buy a Playstation 3!* Cool

  • Dust is going to be connected to the Eve mmo universe
  • Both parties will be able to communicate with each other
  • Dust will be PS3 only in agreement with Sony
  • We will be able to orbital bomb Dust players

Last I saw we weren't transporting the players. FPS Console players tend to have the attention span of a c rack addicted adhd kid and would probably be put off by the thought of a 32 jump afk transport.

i'm tempted to buy a ps3 just to try it out...but then again, i'm kinda terrible at shooter games. i've heard that it's not exactly like most shooters and than skill training is like eve...but i still think it's probably a shooter inside. just a shiny glossed up shooter.

I was contemplating the same thing until i realized my brother in-law has a ps3. So, i'm trying to get him to play it and make a mercenary squad with his friends... This could offer a ton of fun with tear collecting to a whole new level.... depending on how it works. :D

Last I saw we weren't transporting the players. Any sensible person would probably be put off by the thought of a 32 jump afk transport.

Fixed that for you.

You know I've got to ask, but is PI profitable enough to care about defending it? everything was quiet till the Dustbunny nation attacked, how much does it take to pay for the defence?

OP, **** your feature. You know what would be awesome? DUST players logging into a carrier and undocking from the carrier in fighters!

That would be sweet. But part of me wants to see my character running across the terrain of a planet armed to the teeth. :D

We got slaves for that.

I wouldn't buy a PS3 just for dust, tbh.

It's a shooter and not a terribly good one. IMO, it's only saving grace is the EVE interaction.

Oh and as I've envisioned in other threads, I hope if and when CCP will expand DUST, they will expand it to DUST mercs capturing POS's and maybe even capital ships.

Imagine it. Instead of bashing the POS for hours and dying of boredom, you could disable it's defenses (or tank them), send an assault boat (a beach head type, not the AFs we already have), which will dock, blow up the airlock and rush in to capture the POS.

World War II Online has an analogous feature. You can pilot a bomber and people can join as turret gunners. Or command a tank and people can join as crew (driver or gunner). Cool concept, but nobody usually does it more than once. If you're the pilot/commander, you feel bad if you get some random person you don't know killed. And having to communicate with each other is more hassle than just having an AI gunner handle the job. Cool concept though.

I like the idea of Dust guys taking over POSes and space trading posts. That could be a game changer and actually make them pretty valuable.
