Im cold.

I hear freezing to death is much more pleasant than dying of dehydration or slowly burning to death. :)

No danger of burning to death here Lol

In the last 3 years (East Mids) we've had :

a) the coldest winter on record (2010)
b) the driest year on record (2011)
c) the wettest year on record (2012)

Probably screwed for this year too Roll

Edit - the last time we had a really hot summer was 9 years ago when Eve came out. Incidentally Eve managed to get my Radeon 9800Pro so hot that SMD caps fell off the back - still worked though Shocked

Ooo regional war is on! The brave capsuleers of Nottingham will tan your hides (unless your from Manchester/London/Liverpool/Belfast in which case we'll be good)

ot - Planets rotated once? I once tried to orbit one to see if the texture changed at all with no joy. Bumping them didn't have much effect either.

Look at the way our ships fly. I don't think physics has ever shown up to this party.

AFK Cloaking? An afk cloaker has never ganked me. In fact a cloaker at his keybourd has never ganked me either.

Ummm I have the misfortune to live in Leicester (it was OK 25 years ago) and am counting the days until youngest daughter finishes school. Once that happens its house on the market and bye bye East Mids.

I still have safes inside planets/moons. Does this mean I can cause earthquakes to kill dustbunnies Blink

That's just wrong... Sad

Sorry but there were technical reasons. CCP Nullarbor has some crazy ideas for what can be done to bring back the rotation. Something along the lines of introducing the first moving grids if you will. That is a long ways off though, so no holding your breath.

So when the dust bunnies arrive on the planets they're going to find one side perma blasted by the sun into a 700 degree desert and the other side a freezing cold permanight tundra with miles high glaciers covering once populated cities. So much for temperate planets ....

There's a reason for continental drift!

Further proof we may already be in a game in RL.....

Revisiting this.

That crashing, screaming sound you heard? That was everything loose on the furface of the planet being whipped into the air (and maybe space) as their circular motion suddenly became linear as the world came to a screeching halt under their feet. The 'sloshing' sound is the oceans suddenly overlowing their basins and doing what wandering oceans do.
Property values have declined precipitously.

Resulting in another realignement of the tax base as the world just as suddently jerks out from under the re-built cities and lives of the inhabitants. Oh, and here comes the ocean again...

First of all, thanks for the fast clarification, CCP FoxFour! CCP rocks these days!
Stopping planets is as pragmatical of an idea as it is funny. Big smile

Second:
Get CCP Nullarbor over here to receive likes just for thinking about bringing grids to the next level!

I always joked about the static- and 2Dness of eve. When you aligned stargates into 3D you totally surprised me! Its a little thing that totally erased an awkward feeling i had on every jump.
Knowing that there is a nonzero chance of something like moving grids in the future makes me really happy. Big smile

I always found it a bit weird when I would mine a belt around a gas giant and watch the rings move from above the belt to below or vice versa. The planets rotated on around the vertical axis, even if the planet was tilted like Earth, so the ring actually tumbled around the planets.

If moving grids were implemented, I would love to see proper planetary mechanics everywhere.

pull this off, and next thing we'll have is planets orbiting their star.

you know, it's a neat idea. and something many people have been asking for literally ages.

it might look weak on the effort:payback ratio initially, but you can never think of all the possibilities we can come up with that idea.

also check the positive feedback you've got in just a couple of hours.

Just want to mention that moving grids would be completely amazing and open up massive amounts of possibilities for New Things.

Requesting a list of Devs I need to get drunk at Fanfest to make this happen.

So, will moving grids lead to a 'maintain position relative to this' option for celestials?

Planets orbiting stars as well? What's next, having to introduce dynamic bookmarks because of PoSes orbiting moons orbiting planets orbiting stars orbiting the galactic center?
