why oh why do you use tech II drones?

seriously, am i missing something? the number of abandoned tech II drones I have picked up in ice belts must be in triple figures now. why do it?

Those are drones left from ganked exhumers ;)

Because most of the time when they are left behind its from being disconnected unintentionally or having to flee a belt / ganked. Sure everyone leaves drones behind, not just miners. I know more mission runners that leave drones behind then miners.

I use T2 mining drones because I get 309m3/minute more ore per character. 5 characters brings that to 1545m3 / minute or about 20,350,00 isk/hour more then not using mining drones, and around 9M isk/hour more then T1 drones.

They also make enough isk/hour to replace themselves almost 2x per hour.

The question is if you can use T2 drones, why wouldn't you use T2 drones?
Your question seems to be why do people leave drones behind, and that's been answered for you.

You can work out how long it takes for the T2 drone to pay for its loss vs no drones, and vs t1 drones.
If the miner is losing drones less frequently than that, then they should be using T2 drones.

If you're picking up triple digit number of drones, why question or complain about it? Smile and make a profit.

FREE drones, best drones... there's always somebody half-asleep or stoned, so you might as well give them a good home. Blink

I think their bot program must be off kilter and it is forgetting to collect the drones before it warps off.

this is actually no longer the case. CCP fixed this aspect of the game. upon disconnect, all drones return to bay automatically. its rather nice.

The real reason is lazy gankers.

I always scoop the drones.

Some folks just worry about the silliest of things.

Is this game-breaking or something for you ?

I hardly ever use mining drones because I'm far too lazy to manage them. I use T1 drones to kill rats because they do the job easily.

I often wonder why people use T2 combat drones in high sec belts. It's total overkill.

On a related note, I once found an abandoned "harvester" mining drone. Whoever lost that must have been kicking themselves.

ICE BELTS

must be in triple figures now. why do it?

Intereresting ... Your Mining Drones can mine ICE? Shocked --> Just to make it clear to everybody. OP was asking for drones in ice-belts

And I do absolutely agree with OP. I never ever use T2 combat drones, just T1 drones. Why should I? T1 are strong enough in HiSec to kill the rats and if I loos one, I don't care. If I loose a T2 drone I don't care either, but why should I pay more if I can have it 100x cheaper.

The same with mining drones. I use them for afk-mining sometimes. If I loos one it doesn't matter, because they have paid off after 2 or 3 cycles. I only use T2 mining drones, when I am actively working in a mining fleet for max output of Ore.

It's not just miners. I used to scan down abandoned drones at mission sites and recover them. There are tons (probably hundreds) of abandoned T2 drones in the popular systems.

It's better money than other options to a brand new player, but I think you could easily make more with the new mining frig nowadays.

Funniest group of abandoned drones I found (in hisec) were 3x EC-300 and a Thrasher wreck. Gank gone sideways it seems.

Come down to lowsec and null and you find drones all over the place, not always time to gather up all the drones after a fight or even salvage wrecks. So sometimes when bored and no pew is to be had I take out a cheap ship and go around cleaning up.

Who knows, might find a fresh corpse now and then too :D

I am new to the game so finding an abandoned Hammerhead made me smile. While it isn't T2, it still made my day for a little bit.

Free anything best anything, tbh. GSCs people forget to anchor, drones, corpses, wrecks on gates, etc.
People really need to stop getting podded outside trade hubs, too.
