Missiles and solo PvP

Hi,

I always liked missiles in solo PvP - robust against ewar, superb projection, no cap use and damage type selection. Also style :)

Never had any issues with small missiles. So all ships up to the RML Caracal are fine for me. But as soon as I start to use medium sized missiles, suddenly there are targets which are *to small*.

Fighting solo means fighting a bigger groups mostly. 1v1 is a rare...which is no problem for me, I like the challenge to fight bigger groups. This means distance and damage projection. Also flexibility against different types of targets. Works fine with small missiles. Tacklers are chasing me, I try to pop them while I try to separate bigger ships.

But with HMs I have an issue to deal enough damage to smaller, faster but still tanky ships at range. Since I'm in a bigger ship now, fast opponents are even more dangerous and must be removed from the field fast. Turrets have the ability to blap them with proper piloting, missiles cannot do this. I'd need to warp as soon as they're in point range. Which is bad because I want that fight.

My questions:
- are medium+ missiles just bad for solo because of this? What is your experience?
- I could try to fit modules to enhance my effective damage at range (rigors, TPs) but this would gimp my fit for shorter ranged fights.
- maybe the setting of the fight is the issue here? Should I try to separate my targets by warp so I can brawl them down (like a blaster ship would do it)? As soon as I can use (dual-)webs I've no big issue anymore.

You could also look into rapid launchers (cruiser-sized launchers that fling out light missiles at a high rate of fire).

There are no precision heavy assault missiles, only precision heavy missiles. HAMs are even worse in terms of missile precision compared to HMs.

A max skilled HM Drake using 3 BCS and precisions HMs does ~100DPS to a MWDing Incursus (before resists). Assuming 5k EHP it would take 50sec to take it down. That is quite a long time.

web and painters .... dead incursus ... aactually navy HMs do much more then that 100 dps.

I think you haven't been updated with Retribution.

and by "missiles precision" I was refering to the former "Guided Missile Precision skill" that now works for unguided missiles as well.


Ham's have a higher precision now than Heavies and have all the benefits of riggs that the guided missiles already had.

I checked HAMs using the DPS graph in EFT. Amazing, they are indeed more precise than HMs now! Thanks for that hint. I was aware of the GMP skill change, but I never assumed it would work that well :)

Drake + hams + web + real drones (no ecm) = dead frig unless its a ab veng fitted with kin hardeners or something.

No Problem, and GMP is one o the best missiles skills there is, especialy when you start using bigger missiles.

Drake + 3 rigor rigs + painter = bye bye interceptor.
No really missile PVP without rigors when everyone and their granny move at sonic the hende whatshisname speed? Unless its brawling, in which case precision HAMS + web is enough.
