For those of us that remember Bacon, it was a cool tool the let you know when someone entered/exited local.

It's original functionality was killed when CCP changed the logserver output.

Was wondering if anyone ever released an update to it that works with the new logserver.

Bacon, and other such software that uses the Logserver for purposes other than which it was intended were frowned upon by CCP and thus changes were made to the system to halt their usage. Please see this forum post for clarification - ISD Type40.

Fairly certain that sort of software would be against the EULA.

Well according to the above referenced post it is NOT against the EULA just "Frowned upon" for whatever thats worth.

Greetings,

The LogServer output is solely intended by CCP as information for developers to help identify and fix bugs. While BACON, and the many similar tools currently used by a large number of players, may technically not be in violation of our EULA/TOS, we frown upon the use of this information for any other purpose and we are currently working on changes to prevent this sort of unintended use of information provided by the LogServer.

...so they removed it because you're not supposed to have that information (especially not in an automated fashion). So if you do it now, you can bet it's illegally hooking into code you're not supposed to touch.

Hover your mouse over the name list in local, and it'll flash when someone enters/exits. Probably not good enough for those people that want to watch a movie while playing a game, but for most people, good enough.

With the increase in shiptoasting, the Report timer needs to be shortened.

I knew someone claiming he still used it... Never figured out if he was bragging or trolling though.

Bacon was software?!?!!? Here I was assuming it was just juicy delicious hardware to interface my mouth with.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

CTRL+A on local list, whenever someone gets in you'll know it. Pointless in high population systems.

You shouldn't be doing much in high population systems anyway except playing the market. The chance of awoxing/ganking increases geometrically with the people in system.
